What is this?

It randomly appears here and there. Like sometimes I won't see it for months and then it just comes out of nowhere.

I think thats the magnifyer go here and disable it if you want - Make items on the screen appear bigger (Magnifier)

No that's a different magnifier. Like I said it doesn't always show up.

I thought magnifier at first, but the icon is different. What does it say if you right-click it?

I can't right or left click on it. When I hover over it, nothing shows up.

I don't download toolbars, addons, or anything like that. So I highly doubt it.

sometimes this little addons are hidden in programs when installing.

I just looked through the installed updates and the installed programs. Nothing with the word search or desktop or anything remotely related to those were found.

I'm pretty sure that it belongs to windowssearch.exe.

It's not running. I found a task in my task manager that had to do with searching but when I ended it the icon was still there.

Well see I ended explorer.exe and reopened it and it went away.

I looked to me like a 'search' icon. And ending Explorer.exe removed it?

Yeah. But my JDownloader icon didn't come back either. So I'm not sure if it removed it or just hid it.

Nope. I've looked more than once. I never installed the update for it.

That is most definetely a symbol for Windows Search, visible in Taskbar when there's an Explorer window with search results open (search in Start menu search field > Show more results, or direct search in Explorer)

I wasn't searching for anything when the icon popped up.

And when I do search for something, nothing happens. The icon doesn't show.
