Solved What Microsoft Program initates A Power down

My computer restarted and it came with the message "Windows Recovered from an Unexpected Restart"
The taskbar showed me the windows update options and suggested I turn on automatic updates. But I dont want windows updating certain drivers So I need to select them manually.

Will WIndows7 randomly reboot my computer until I change my update setting to automatic. ?



Please note I have windows update turned off and this restart was not initated by windows doing an update. I still need to look into that utility in my other post about this.

What I want to know is what little utility tells my computer to shut down. Are there Bios settings that will prevent my computer from accepting a command to restart or shutdown ?
What programs in windows 7 initate a restart. or shutdown ?

Does Win7 64 have a history of shutting down computers that dont have Automatic Updates turned on.

Does windows 7 have a proven ability to run stable without shutting itself down at random ?

In a nutshel how do I set windows up so it will not trigger a shutdown or restart wihtout my consent.

This is usually a hardware problem, not software or OS. I leave the details to someone else.

thats more than likely Hardware caused as opposed to WindowsUpdate, as Rowin said.

As for windows updating drivers you can turn that part OFF

controlpanel >> system >> Advanced system settings >> Hardware >> device installation settings >> NO

you have other options from within WU, but as you have it set to never it will NOT restart your comp.
(having said that the W10 KB nags might be the problem MS did some weird and wonderfull things, how did you stop it??)

It can restart due to over temperature. Do you have a temperature monitor?
I have this HM that starts with windows. Extract to C:\Program Files (x86)\HardwareMonitor and run it. On the options you have start with Windows. Open Hardware Monitor - Core temp, fan speed and voltages in a free software gadget

No.

Absolutely.

I run Windows 7 computers, both 32 and 64 bit, with Automatic updates turned off. They run 24/7 for weeks at a time with no issues. Millions of Windows 7 computers are doing this routinely. The only unplanned shutdowns were due to power failures.

Spontaneous shutdowns are almost always due to hardware problems. If there are any other causes I have not seen them.

There are Windows utilities that can shut down the computer but Windows itself does not use them. The functionality is in a number of system DLLs that perform many other functions as well.
