What performance/tweaking tools do you use, right now?

I am not much for tweaking and I wouldn't have one of those performance enhancing programs on my computer. Memory "optimizer" programs are one of those things I love to hate. And don't get me started on registry cleaners.

But that wasn't always true. I actively researched and read articles by the score about system tweaking and performance enhancement. I tweaked the registry and disabled system services. I ran registry cleaners, defragmenters, and other registry tools. I ran memory optimizers and urged others to do the same. Plus a few other things I would not care to mention.

But I eventually came to the conclusion that I wasn't getting anywhere. System performance and stability wasn't noticeably better than before it all began. And that was on low spec computers which would supposedly benefit the most from all of this.

Note that I have only been using computers since about 1977. Not very long at all.

So today I leave all of those performance enhancement things pretty much alone. I find that I am not alone and am in good company.
