I am finishing with getting my computer up and running that was mentioned in the link below. I had to do a clean wipe and reinstall all software. Now my question is, how do I back up my properly so I can get up and running quickly should some thing bad happen again. I keep all my programs on a c: drive. I have 2 their internal drives for photos, data, etc. ose are backed up to external drives on a regular basis.

Input and advice appreciated.

To back up Windows, you need to make an image of the C partition.

And the System Reserved partition, if you have one.

You recover Windows by restoring those images. Usually it works, sometimes it doesn't.

The most commonly recommended program to do it is Macrium Reflect Free Edition.
Back up your personal stuff--photos, data, etc, without using an image, just as you apparently are doing now.

You recover Windows by restoring those images. Usually it works, sometimes it doesn't.

If it doesn't, it's only because your process is wrong. If imaging didn't provide 100% reliability, it would be called "voodoo."
A 100% successful process for imaging must include testing a restore so you know your process works. That's just how it is.
I've been restoring images for years with a 100% success rate.

Mr2005,

The tutorial below can help show you how to turn on and setup System Protection to create restore points. While restore points can be handy for a quick undo, they should not be considered to be a backup of your files or Windows.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/330-system-protection-turn-off.html

For a proper backup, you should consider what was posted in posts #2 or #3 above.

Hope this helps. :)
