What ssd to buy Samsung 840 EVO or Kingston HYPERX 3K

Hello to all.I want to buy an ssd for my computer.It's a SATA II.I want to buy one with 120GB,for upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1 and install there my basics applications.

I am searching but I can't decide if to buy Samsung 840 Evo or hyperx 3k

Buy the cheapest. You really will not notice any difference. My favorite is this one:

So,buy the samsung,is the cheapest.But If I upgrade the pc (that I think I will change it in one or two years,because this is 6 years old,but runs like a horse ),Will I feel the speed on a sata 3 computer??

You will notice the difference in speed on any computer. Sata2 or Sata3 does not make much of a difference for the OS. Just make sure you don't run it with XP. That has no TRIM support.

Fantastic drive. I have one too. I like the warranty on Mushkin products. You can't go wrong with anything they make.

If the Samsung is less than the Mushkin, get the Samsung. In a few years we may have a whole new SATA interface that's 10 time faster.

XP and SSD's are fine, all current generation SSD's have GC (garbage collection) imbedded in the firmware, GC is the process of relocating existing data to new locations and allowing the surrounding invalid data to be erased. Flash memory is divided into blocks, and blocks are divided in pages. Data can be written directly into an empty page, but only whole blocks can be erased.

The advantage of the TRIM command is it enables the SSD’s GC to disregard the invalid data and not move it, saves rewriting the invalid data. This reduces the number of erase cycles on the flash memory. The SSD doesn’t need to immediately delete or GC these locations, just mark them as no longer valid.

You will like the EVO; it's an excellent SSD and comes with excellent support software.

All things being equal I just bought a 840 Pro. My previous SSD's are all Crucials then broke ranks with a Samsung 830 and a cheaper than dirt OCZ Vertex III on a whim. I've been very pleased with all of them.

I favor the Samsung Pros myself (my boot drive on my desktop is a 128GB 840 Pro) but, when I wanted to replace the 500GB spinner in my notebook, I just couldn't justify the expense of a SSD that cost significantly more than the notebook itself so, when they went on sale late last year, I snagged a 500GB 840 EVO. Even then, it and the RAM upgrade I did a little later (8GB from 4GB) together cost as much as the notebook (RAM is outrageously expensive right now). I primarily use the notebook only on trips longer than a day trip (and I don't travel as much as I use to) so it gets light use; unless something just out and out breaks, that EVO will last through this notebook and probably the next one.

I would love to add a large ssd to my lappy I waited till a 256gb went deep on sale and pulled the trigger with 8 gb of ram the lappy is amazing and it's only a i3. I then grabbed a 64gb sd card and a 128gb usb 3 stick for added travel needs and it works perfect.

You did or did not get a SSD? Which one if so?

A 256gb was all I could afford or justify but soon we'll be installing 1tb SSD's and laughing about way back when when we struggled to justify a 60gb SSD.

In 1998 I paid $221 dollars for a 4.3 Gig Western Digital hard drive. Contrast that to $175 for a 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black HD in 2012 or $212 for a Samsung 840 Pro 256 SSD drive a few weeks back.

My how times have changed

As to the OP's question, the enthusiast in me says get the better performing SSD drive. A Yugo may be a car, and it may get you from point A to B, but it's still a Yugo

BTW good choice with the EVO.
