what to use for connecting to unprotected networks? (extra firewall)

is there a good program if you plan to conecnt to unsecured networks in the future something that would strength your own firewall? beside windows firewall? what about comandos stand alone firewall?

You can spend money on all kinds of stuff, but make sure you have the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials and try to visit the same sites that you trust and you will be ok

windows firewall is only a soft firewall.
download and install Comodo firewall as a stand alone.
then turn windows firewall off. (so that you are only running one firewall)
you can adjust the settings of Comodo to the point of unreasonable.
but it can get very complicated, with alerts asking you for every thing.
... might just be easier to set Comodo to its default, and you will have a firewall that is sooo much safer than Windows Firewall.

Really what do you think a unsecured network has to do with where you surf and what you do. The only thing a secured network requires is a password to log in. You are using anti-virus and malware program right?

It is weak and ineffective.
Almost anything can slip through it.
It allows holes.
And it is easily disabled without the users consent.

I've found very little reason to use things like Comodo unless you really get off on annoying popups and clicking to allow each and every single thing outbound that wants to get out. If you want complete and total control, these third party solutions are great, but if you are the type who just wants something quick and effective, they aren't necessary.
