Solved what will decrease if a pcie 2.0 gpu is placed in a 1.0a slot

i know their backwards compatible. but what will decrease in its performance memory bandwith?, clock speed?, memory speed?, shader cores?

i have a palit geforce 210 pcie 2.0 TO BE placed in a 1.0a pcie slot mobo

Hello nfsworldrace,

The difference is the bus bandwidth speed that a PCI-E 2.0 and 1.0a can handle. Going to a 1.0a will reduce the performance of the graphics card due the smaller bus speed of 1.0a.

PCI-E 2.0 = about 4 Gbit/s max (500 MB/s)

PCE-E 1.0a = about 250 MB/s max (2 Gbit/s)

sorry i dont get it about bandwith. i have a by bandwith u mean memory bandwith. i have geforce 7300LE if it have a 5.3GB/sec memory bandwith it will decrease to 250mb/s?

what changes will be done in gaming. fps will decrease much? effects and texture rendering will be slow down?

No problem. It's the PCI-E bandwidth for how much maximum data can travel up to on the PCI-E bus.

The more, the faster and better performance you can get.

As far as gaming performance goes, it all depends on if the game can reach or use all of the available PCI-E bandwidth. If it can't, then you probably won't notice any difference. If it can, then a lower PCI-E bandwidth can hurt the performance of the game by having lower FPS.

oh i see but i searched on some forums that some of the games dont usually use up to that mass of bandwith

Agreed, the theoretical maxes for the slot types is like rarely hit, but if it's slammed there is your bottleneck if comparing both types in the same conditions.

You have to consider the chipset type on the motherboard, the CPU, & the system RAM also, as big performance or lack thereof factors, too.

Ultimately: A 210 video card is very low-end card so gaming wise, low expectations, no matter what the slot.

Agree. I'd get a Radeon HD 6570 minimum. Anyways he doesn't play games that needs more resources.
