Whatever happened to the easy no-click startup?

I wonder if anyone knows how I can start my computer (either take it out of sleep mode or start it from the turned-off state) without having to click on any icons?

I am not worried about anyone gaining unauthorized access to my stuff, so I want the easiest access possible for myself. It seems however that even if I have only one user account (my account as administrator without any guest accounts), and even if I do not have a password on this account, I am still shown a start-up screen with the administrator icon which I have to click on to "unlock" the computer and start using it.

I haven't told the computer to lock or log off when I close the lid (thus putting it in the sleep mode) or when I turn it off. So this extra screen where I have to click on an icon to bring up the starting screen is basically useless. All I want is fast and easy access.

To avoid having a sign-in screen, have one user account and don't password it.

To avoid having to click your User name when resuming from sleep, select "Don't require a password" at Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\System Settings

Here are some items to check to have a automatic log on like that.

• Set the your user account to automatically log on at startup.
• Turn off password required at startup in your Power Plan Options.
• If you are using a screen saver, disable screen save password protection.
