What's happening to my screen (video now included)?

It seems to be doing this more regularly recently. It's done it twice today so far; I'm not playing any games, and it seems to be doing it at random intervals (but it doesn't happen often). This is a static photo of it as it was 'moving around', so to speak [can't explain it].

On a side note which may be related, is that my monitor sometimes adjusts its resolution to something else while still keeping its 1280x1024 res (from what I've read happens from a Google search) - the screen goes blank for a second, the the desktop text looks very slightly blurred/out of focus.

Could my graphics card (or monitor) be on its way out?

Hi Gaz1701, Certainly looks like it's the monitor, have you tried degaussing it? If it has an OSD look down the list for degauss :)

After looking up what 'degauss' means, I haven't got that option on my monitor - mine's a flat screen LCD monitor (albeit pretty old now), so apparently it shouldn't need 'degaussing'

Sorry to bump this up, but does anyone have any ideas as to why it's doing this to a flatscreen monitor? I don't have anything magnetic nearby that could cause this (if that might've been the case)?

Hi guys, here's a video of it occuring if this helps - available for 7 days from now:
Free large file exchange service without size limits

Could someone at least tell me what it's called when it does this so I can Google it myself (if no-one posts a solution here)?

All I can say is, try a different monitor. Try that monitor on another system. Use a different interface (HDMI instead of DVI, or something similar).

Degausing was a thing when everyone had CRTs because magnets were steering the beams that created your picture. Of course, having magnets in your monitor made the picture tube susceptible to magnetic field variations and the like, necessitating degausing.

Due to the fact that LCD monitors don't have tubes, there is no problem with magnetic fields anymore.

This is probably the longest I've ever had a Windows machine run without having to restore it to scratch. I'm used to restoring to "factory" about every 2 yrs. I've run with Win7 since new in 2009 and only recently (Nov, '14) restored to clean up the machine from all my 'xperimenting. LOL!! I may never need another machine.

Upgraded to 10 when it was still free, then installed 2017 update.
I have to agree with PeaB4YouGo.. try another monitor.
What I do know is that if my LCD looked like yours, I'd be shopping for a new one.

Thanks a lot for your advice everyone. :) I'm definitely more glad it's not the graphics card that's on its way out.

As I don't have that much money to spend, I'll go and have a look for a new one when this one finally bites the dust.
