What's the next generation install media?

Your getting WAYY caught up in details, and basically stopped discussing this. The process you explain above is EXPENSIVE. this has been my point, regardless of what you call the specific burn process. (hey if you wanna call it stamped, ok, go for it, but im still ganna continue to say BURNED) why? becuase I like the term. just like motherboards are actually 'stamped' but I say 'made' cause thats just how I roll.

part of discussing is acknoleging valid points. and if no points are made? well, then you get what's written above. describing a very resource consuming and expensive burning process, referred to as 'stamped'.

to sum up my points:

burning media = expensive, getting more so with each new media
SSD = cheap, getting cheaper with every passing day

where is the detatchment?

Hm, I wonder how Apple is going to handle this. They develop the Macbook Air and want everybody to upgrade to Snow Leopard, yet AFAIK, they don't do the "download upgrade" thing MS does, so are the MBA owners going to be forced to install using a remote computer and "netbooting"? There hasn't been an OS X upgrade since its release, so it's new territory.

Netbooting seems too clunky for Apple (what if that somebody's only computer?), but the only other solution I know of would be for Apple to offer it on a flash drive.

No problem.

So basically, SSD is cheap in the long run, and think that the process as a whole will move to that since everyone already owns the stuff to play it. No need to purchase extra equipment, Anyone agree?

Flash drives are essentially a SSD, it's just when we say SSD we usually mean something like the X25-M or the Vertex, but technically thumb drive are SSDs.

Good link DarkNovaGundam. It at least validates what antalgebra, I, and others have been saying: it's the most viable option with today's tech. This isn't even next-gen stuff. Current gen is going to have problems if MS and other companies refuse to sell their OSs on anything but DVDs.
