I wouldn't touch those liquids they call whisky or whiskey in America, wheter made north or south from the Great Lakes. Brown schnapps, a mix of spirits, water and brown food coloring ;).

As for soft drinks, I tend to stay away from the regular fizzy drinks. If I want a fizzy drink, I just mix squash/juice to sparkling water. A lot more thirst quenching and healthy.

There is a little difference as far as I know. That beverage is not pure rum. Its a mixture of rum and coke, and sometimes lime juice, too. The impact of it is not like xxx rum.
