I think I hit around the 120 mark when I went racing Ferreri 360's last October at New York's Monticello race track (I'm the short fat one in the middle in the helicopter).



I may have been faster in my own cars but as the UK has a 70 mph speed limit I'm saying nothing

I had my Trans Am up to 140 on the freeway early one morning. The long sweeping curves felt like hairpins. One and only time I did that!

Heading up to Ski Big Bear chasing my friends in his Trans Am my 72 240Z showed 140 MPH but I'm sure that should be corrected to maybe 125-130......at best but it felt like the car was going to take off.

Living in Germany, high speeds are luckily allowed and I can drive as fast as my Mazda can do quite often. About half of the Autobahns (motorways, highways) are still without speed limits.

I need to visit city of Solingen in the western Germany quite often, door to door it is 472 kilometers (about 294 miles), over four fifths of it no speed limit. I especially like the relatively new A38 Autobahn which since a few years now have made this trip 50 kilometer (about 31 miles) shorter and which is almost totally in its length of 200 kilometers (about 124 miles) without speed limits, a 130 kmph (80 mph) limit only in couple of bigger exits / junctions. I usually need about 3 and a half hours for the trip, including a coffee / cigarette break halfway through (although a smoker, I have never smoked inside my car or home excluding my study). It makes an average speed of 143 kmph (89 mph), even a bit more as that average does not take into account the break.

This screenshot from my Nokia N900 Navi's Trip Details shows I need less than 40 minutes to drive to visit my friend and coworker who lives 90 kilometers (56 miles) away:

Notice that that's door to door; I have to drive slowly through the city first about 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) of that 90 to get to the Autobahn, then about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from the Autobahn into small roads leading to the village where he lives. The average speed 139.19 kmph (86.5 mph), top speed 210.17 kmph (130.6 mph).

Several years ago, during a moment of insanity, I opened up the Isuzu Rodeo I had back then just to see what it could do. Before I reached a curve that forced me to slow down, I just barely touched 110-115 mph (I honestly don't remember exactly because I was busy watching the road and for Smokey). Had the ground been flatter and the road straighter, I probably would have hit 120 easy. Not too shabby for a four banger.

My present vehicle, a 2008 Ford F150 screw (SuperCrew) with the 5.4 V8 could probably easily top that but I've managed to stay sane since that one experiment so the fastest it has been was briefly hitting 95 mph while passing a deliberate rolling road block who didn't want to be passed (I have better names for him but Mama told me not to use those words and I don't want to denigrate any animals). I was shocked how fast my little truck hit that speed; I certainly wasn't expecting it.
