When are Nvidia 300 series card coming?

It's why I've stayed away from ATI too. The price is so low because it's essentially a beta product they're releasing!

again, no specifics... what is incompatibility--could be anything! the word by itself doesn't mean anything. as far as the rest of your statement, i really don't understand what that means

what he's saying is, ATI cards are not as refined as Nvidia cards in regards to H/W or drivers, & the prices reflect that.....

no ones saying ATI is crap, the 5 series currently matches or outperforms anything nvidia has currently, & they have the x2 on the horizon.

What is so bad about ATi? I was an Nvidia man for many many years until I got my first dual core system (The one I have now) and i switched to ATi for money reasons and it has not let me down.

lol... ATI have had some compatibility issues in the past. , its a lot better now, but the 4000 release was a fiasco.

compatibility issues with what--gaming, everyday use, rendering videos? i'm really curious.

i have had radeon 9250, x1300, hd 2600xt, hd 3870, and currently two 4870s--i'm past forty so my mind is not what it used to be in my 20s, but as i recall with each of the cards i've owned, i've never experienced any problems with compatibility or anything. so i always wonder what problems people have had that has caused them to swear off ati. (oh, and i'm not trying to come off as ATI FANBOY #1 -- i'm just curious to hear of these problems and issues)

(lastly, i'm not asking for someone to list the whole history of their bad experiences with ati drivers, i just want to know some examples. 'compatibility issues' is to vague for me to understand )

well....i dont know what else there is to say, there was a plethora of problems with the 4 series & drivers..

ppl were having to use old drivers when coming home with their new cards, they also had H/W level problems with non detections or an intermittent response, the overheats they were having were also pretty epic....

but as i say, its a lot better now (i.e. the horror stories have stopped)

forgive me for making this go off topic... i was just curious about the reasons why people have been leery of ati cards.

With me, why I went with Nvidia and stayed.Had to do with really early experience with one of my very first builds using an ATI card. I'm talking 8-10 years back. When each card came with it's own driver. Nvidia has a universal driver architecture. ATI didn't. But that was then. Now they have gotten closer to that. So to me it's more of sticking with what I know and am comfortable with. But with the performance and price ATI is not out of my thoughts when looking for a new card. I have recommended ATI several times on this forum. inexpensive cards.DX11, GDDR5, multi monitor support(3-6) and the Eyefinity are all great selling points. Yet I'm still very curious to see the 300 series Nvidia cards. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5870,2422.html This is a great review but puts the 5870 crossfire up against the gtx285 in SLi wait till it has to go up against the 300 series in SLi.

I have also heard a lot of catalyst driver complaints. There is one or two on this page right now. I have heard a lot of problems. This also makes me want to stick with Nvidia.

I've stayed away from ATI just because I have never liked their drivers. Though since AMD they seem to be getting a better handle on it. .

Dodgy drivers are no longer just an ATI issue. By all accounts, nvidia has been releasing a few dogs lately too.

Sure, CAT drivers aren't perfect, then again no driverset from either maker ever is. If they were, there'd be no need to update them

I've only used ATI for a year, (Cat 8.11+) so I missed all the 'absolute horrors' that apparently preceded them and have engendered such hate for ATI.


I'm also interested to see what sort of rabbits nvidia can pull out of their hat. And how much those rabbits cost
