I've read where to find default email location. I'm eager to change the location to my data drive. Will this bring on problems? When changing the location from default to new folder on new drive, does this automatically bring all the old emails with it or do they have to be transferred manually? Your suggestions on handling this change appreciated! (Using Win Live Mail on Win 7)

Hi
Just one post per topic will do. If you need to edit a post use the easy way and use the Edit button.
If you open your Win Live mail and click "Tools" then "Options" then the "Advanced" tab. Click the "Maintenance" button and half way down you will see "Store Folder" button. Click this and you will see your present location, click "Change" to choose a different location. Take care with this though as the file structure in Win 7 is quite different from what you might have been used to. Change the location if you really need to but just out of interest why do you need to change it?

1. Sorry Mitchell, I did that immediately after posting without thinking and goofed.
And you asked about my motive for changing folders and location: Backup convenience. I try hard to keep all my current data in one location which I keep in DropBox for network access and backup that I can rely on.

The upgrade to Win 7 from Vista caused me to lose all my prior email (so far) and really frustrated me for months after. Now I try to back up my email often and the location I find inconvenient for navigation.

2. Roncerr, thanks for that link; that's exactly my problem with contacts. Very appropriate for my current dilemma. I feel like jumping in the discussion but don't want to intrude.

I put that link in since you asked if there were any issues. The issue I had in mind was that moving the message store may not move the contacts store. I also make backups as you describe but I use Microsoft's "SyncToy" which allows me to check off in a folder tree the items I want to back up. So if they are in a wierd location, I only need to find them once, check them off, and let SyncToy deal with it from then on.

Thanks Roncerr. I use synctoy quite a bit also but had never thought of it in that use. I've been so focused on keeping all my data files backed up constantly and available over my whole LAN on Dropbox. I'm always afraid I'll forget sometime to "Sync" stuff. But I'll use Synctoy for this now that you mention it until I can figure out how to change the contacts directory.
