Depending on the temperature inside, fans usually keep going until it cools down a bit.

Larry for what it is worth why not try the memtest as in post #1 ti does mention some things anbout memory it shouldn't take long with that amount of RAM and it will eliminate an issue there or confirm one .
MEMTEST
Now to make absolutely we are on the same page the memtest linked here is the only one we recommend and it MUST be run for at least 8 passes or you may as well not bother. It is rather lengthy and best left for a downtime for that machine - overnight is good. Having said that you can stop the test if errors show up while you are around and then it is a matter of tracking down the bad stick of RAM. RAM - Test with Memtest86+ - Windows 7 Help Forums

I have a question, is it posible to back up the registry and then reinstall windows then restore the registry so all the programs will still be their and all that would happen is replacing bad or missing windows files?

Unfortunately, that is not possible.

The registry has a lot of information, but most of the data comes from the hard drive itself. The registry is (in regards to programs) a storage location so Windows knows where to find what, what to do with it, what it is, etc.
However, the actual execution comes from the files on the hard drive.

As axe has said mate your programs are not stored in the registry as such that you can pull them out again..

I don't know if doing this from an image might be better though personally I prefer to just reinstall programs after the install - I keep the downloads for them on a stick so that you can easily install them for the stick. Some may have been updated but that id no big deal - to me at least

After a Clean Install I always, I say again 'always' install all programs (new/fresh). Then I update said programs.
In the long run it has less problems.

Yep I do the same as Jack and any of the programs I have on the stick will or usually flash up any updates to that program I keep things like my AV Macrium, Partition Wizard etc on the same stick and periodically re download one the I know often updates like Partition wizard.
