What will microsoft do when the finish with the beta?

Will we be patched into the new version?

Will we be left behind to buy it?

IDK this is the first time I even used a beta OS...

Hi Arthmx, and welcome to the Seven Forums,

basically at the point when the Beta expires the software will stop working, this is usual with Beta OS's. There may be a subsequent beta or RTM public test although this is not certain at the moment.

If you wish to run Windows 7 after the beta test program then you will have to purchase a copy when this becomes available

Yep, if no other beta is supplied, then your going to have to buy Seven when it's released. Using the BETA does not = free version upon release

Beta testers only got free OS's when they were few and far between. With half the world beta testing this thing now I hardly think that MSFT would consider giving it away.

i got a free copy of XP when i tested that all those years ago lol but to be fair like already said there must be gazillions of people testing this 7 now. But i still have my gold disk with my name on the inside cover purrrrrr

I only tested XP SP2 so was never so lucky.

I remember having to pay £15 for Windows 95 beta programme lol.

I imagine there will be a beta 2 or RC1 before the RTM release.

I tested xp and vista but didn't receive anything, still this is by far the best beta i've tested. I cannot wait for the final release, i will be one of the first to purchase it. Heck, i am build an I7 system as we speak just to test Windows 7.

From what i am told. ( insider info lol) there was going to be three before RTM. The beta were on now, then beta 2 and if all went well RC1. Thats all compared to vista the list there went on and on. If i count all the betas/alphas i have of vista it must be getting upwards of 15 at least. Now the funny thing is this. Could MS have it so right this time that there may not be a beta 2 but straight to RC1 then if thats good then RTM. now that would be funny in my eyes seeing how many releases theve had before

In reply to this mate. August i think would be to far away for a release timeline. Look at vista, torrent sites were leaking 6000 months before RTM. Hell i even had that in october 2006. Somewhere on the net is a timeline about it. Im sure that if all goes right, then RC1 is due in may/june time. Final testing before RTM sometime in autumn/winter. They need something to take there mind of vista. i have even heard that a beta2 could be within the next couple months. Somehow im not even sure if there will be one given the posative response to build 7000. By MS own admission its feature complete they just need 'turning on' so to speak. Plus hardware developers 'cough intel' need time to sort there **** out too. Remember vista and having printers lying there for months?

mmm, funny how the build tag is 7004 yet build 7000 was compiled nearly a week later. May be different branches though. Seems to be a stiring somewhere and from what i have heard there may be another leak soon enough. The interesting thing is i have not seen any main lab builds or anything like that ( a la vista style ) If 7004 is a later build then it would be interesting to see this one.
Ive even read that there is a build 7013 somewhere. Somebody claims to be downloading it. However if this build is real and exists then im sure it will be obtained soon enough.

There is no 7013; it's a fake.

I believe 7004 was put together after 7000 and sent to "trusted" partners (ones I assume) they knew would not leak it. Could it be ... ?

has not yet officially released Windows 7 Beta yet, which is said to have the build version of 7000 (6.1.7000.0 or 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400) compiled on December 12th, 2008, and scheduled to be made available for free download early January 2009, with invitation to Win7 beta already sent out. Yet, the Windows 7 build 7004, with complete build version of 7004.0.081203-1830 has been compiled and made available to Microsoft employees.


7004 was compiled on the 3rd dec and 7000 on the 12th dec. You have a good point there mate. ' Trusted partners' thats a sure bet that it will get leaked lol

Sorry all, nothing meaningful to contribute to this discussion but I was lmao when i saw this post and thought at first that it meant "6000 months" instead of what it really meant XD. I'm really tired lol.
