When logging in to windows 7 all my files are missing

Please help me!!! I have installed windows 7 32 bit and yesterday everything was fine i set all my shortcuts to the tab and copied all my files from my external hardrive. I set up my email account and installed a few programs aswel and everything seemed perfect but when i logged on this morning all my files and shortcuts have disapeared?? and when going to check my emails all my account settings had gone aswel. But all the programs iv installed are still here. any1 had this problem and no how to fix it??

nope im logged in with my user account and even tried logging in with the girlfriends but it seems all the files are missing. iv just copied another file from my external hard drive to my documents logged of and back on and its gone. Its like everything resets including internet explorer.

Just a wild guess, but it might work with luck. It sounds like your back up and restore function has gone berserk. I think that when you log on your computer is restoring your files (from back up and restore) at a point in time when you did not have anything to back up. I would put a file in documents and copy it with back up and restore, shut down, boot up and see what happens. If that does not work shut down the back up and restore function.
