I just installed Office 97 on a new install of windows 7. When I open excel, I get several addtional windows of visual basic error and pdf writer. These must be closed before I can get to Excel. How do I prevent these windows from opening? Have to close these windows twice now before being able to use Excel. Can Visual Basic and PDF writer be disabled?
Office 97 is very nearly 20 years old & there are compatibility problems with Windows 7. You need to be able to run Office 97 in Windows 7 XP compatible mode & that is not available with Windows 7 Home Premium, it's only available in Windows 7 Professional.
There are also other problems with Office 97 & Windows 7. Read through this MS website.
Thanks for getting back & updating would certainly be the best way to go. Either Office 2007 or Office 2010, but it is getting hard to find them these days.
Make sure you completely uninstall Office 97, before installing the new version of Office.
