Solved when using hdmi to tv, icons jump

Hi, I recently started using the laptop to run programs on the old 480p plasma TV. I just ran an HDMI from the laptop to a hdmi switch which connects to the TV. Since my laptop resolution and the 740x480 plasma are different, my icons all shift places on the laptop. Of course they do not return to their normal positions when the hdmi is unswitched. So, does anyone have a solution other than moving each icon back to it's old position manually each time I use the TV as a screen? Any thoughts? fb2

Don`t put icons on your desktop

But seriously, mine does it too, it`s totally normal so I only keep my game icons on the desktop, and leave them right where they go. The top left hand corner.

Have you googled for a solution ?

Google provides. Found several worth considering but some with the last updates in 2004 or back. The one I decided upon is IconRestorer found at IconRestorer 1.0.8.1 Free Download - FreewareFiles.com - Desktop Category. I think it is the only one that installs as either 32 or 64 depending upon the OS it finds. Works great. It is to windows 7 forum's reputation that I came here first! thanks, fb2
