When Wireless or NIC is active.

With XP and Vista, I used to be able to show the NIC or Wireless (in properties) when it was active, on the Task bar.

Is the only way to show it now, by going to the hidden Icons and customizing it to "Show Icon and Notifications"?

Home Server - WHS (6.5 TB shared disk).

With the exception of the laptops, everything is self-built.
