When you predict hardware will be impossible to find to run Windows 7?

I am worried about not being able to use Win7 on hardware in the future.

In VirtualBox (Linux host) it's working fine, but performance is a bit low and OpenGL glitchy.

It's fine for 90% of my applications.

Tho, it's not as good a running the OS from hardware, directly.

I see today people running Windows XP on real hardware, but it seems a bit like archeology.

When do you think i6-i5-i3 will be hard/impossible to find, in the future?

The computer I use for production is offline, no problem for security updates!

I do install offline updates KB3020369 & KB3125574-V4 for SP1 (2016).

Thanks!

As is the example with XP, new motherboards or even new OEM computers don't supply Windows XP drivers so that's one issue going forward with Windows 7 and 8.1. The other issue is as we move forward more and more software may be Windows 10 coded only, though, it might be able to still run in 7 and 8.1 I'm sure. Games would be a big one. With a game requiring DirectX 12 and Windows 10 then 7 or 8.1 won't work. Especially software like Steam, Epic Games or Battle.net. Then there's the browser. Eventfully it too will require Windows 10 or it'll not run. The only way around that is to constantly use an older version which means it's vulnerable without the updated version and then you'll have site breakage due to code changes and what have you. Then some website will complain you're not using an updated browser. The biggest website you'll get that kind of grief from would be online banking.

As to the no updates crap for new CPUs, that's an easy fix with wufuc. GitHub - zeffy/wufuc: Disables the "Unsupported Hardware" message in Windows Update, and allows you to continue installing updates on Windows 7 and 8.1 systems with Intel Kaby Lake, AMD Ryzen, or other unsupported processors.
