Solved Where can I download drivers for this motherboard?

Hi

I have an old motherboard in my secondary computer:

ABIT VA-10

Where do I find drivers for it? The website seems to be broken, at the drivers download page

There's something strange about that site. It's not USA by the URL. The "real" ABit site is returning pings but the pages are returning in blank dark blue. The real ABit is/was a partner with Nvidia. The links from the Nvidia site mention nothing of "Universal ABit". I think it may be a hack.

I certainly wouldn't download anything until it's straightened out.

Yep well I came up with a lot of rather odd looking hits and well the age of the board unless it is going to be a vintage build is not worth the trouble.

True John the Motherboard is rather on the old side ...

Actually Brian apart from the drivers the RAM (DDR) unless one has a good source of new stuff it is a worry too.

Hi all

Thank you for your replies - you're right. It is quite old, although still working. I got all the parts too, even some old spares. You know, "why not..."
It would still be great for the grandparents.

Oh and that abit site is really weird. I tried to download drivers from the one that was linked above but all the files on it are 404 error missing.

I managed to solve it by reclaiming the missing drivers using driver downloader apps, Windows XP is working fine on it, I got all the drivers for it, even the chipset and GPU. Oh talking about the GPU - that VIA ancient generation graphic card is desperately underpowered. I'm not talking about games - I'm talking about rendering the desktop and refresh rates. I'm writing this for people who later find this topic and have this build: First, that graphics chip can not handle anything over 60 Hz. Even on 60Hz, 1024x768 seems to be the maximum operational. Higher res like 1600, 1080p are blurred, and vibrating (lines visible).
I installed an old ATI / AMD Radeon 9250 AGP card, it does the job fine, even on 1080p (surprising to me, this card was built in 2003-2004 and it can run HD. How cool is that? )

You're right. It was just an experiment nothing more. I built a new PC instead of this one, but sticked to AMD. Funny thing is the new CPU is also called AMD Athlon but it's a brand new gen.

Perhaps I could sell the old PC as vintage lol

Glad you got it sorted mate and like me it sounds as if you have a house full of old machines - I usually fix them up a bit to run simple games for kids who cannot afford to buy a machine and the grandkids too.

Plus I don't have the heart to get rid of my old Dell I bought back in 1988 it was a good old girl and keeping it had - the extra advantage of having the PS2 mouse and keyboard which has got me out of trouble more times than not so if you want my advice if you have one of those devices then hang on to them as they are very handy when wifi and even the USB wired KB and mice will not work.

Well now you have built one you will get the bug and you might as well start planning the next one because take it from an old codger the next gen processors, boards, chipsets etc will pull you in

You're totally right, the PS/2 mouse and keyboard helped me a lot - there are times when Windows didn't recognize the new keyboard (XP times) and I couldn't type in my password - man I was locked out LOL That's when that good old keyboard came useful - fortunately even the new computers have the PS/2 connectors (at least ours do) and with it, I could log in and install the drivers and enabled legacy keyboard support in Bios so the new USB keyboard was always recognized, even in safemode or in startup recovery.
Without my old PS/2 keyboard, I could't have my computer up I running. This is a brand new 2014 board just to tell you... That 15 year old keyboard was still needed to kick it in.

Yep that's what I mean the old KB and mouse have got me out of more than one scrape and especially on the newer and ?cleverer? boards
