A week or two back, I installed Skype 8 on a Win7 box, and absolutely hated it. They've really outdone themselves with making it unusable.
I needed to install it on a Win10 box, and wanted to make sure I didn't get version 8. After some searching around, I found a link to a copy of version 7 for Win10. The page where I got said that there were different versions for Win7 and Win10 (only different by minor version number, both were 7.40.*). I only took the Win10 one, but now want the Win7 one for another machine.
I've been trying for a while to find something that works. I either get one (7.40.0.151 which is what I installed on Win10) that installs in a few seconds (far too fast) and then gives an error when you try to start it, or others (7.4.0.201 or 7.16.0.102) that install, but when I try to log in give a message saying "Skype can't connect". My experience from last week was that this message means I have the wrong version.
Anyone able to point me to a link for a version of Skype 7 that will work on Win7?
