hi guys,

i have spent the last couple of hours going through each GPO setting to disable as many features for my kids account on win7 ultimate. I saved the file as kids.msc. The only issue is that i want to be able to clear these settings when needed, so that i can fully access the features.

I could not find any options in GPO that allows you to reset the settings back to default...could anyone please help?

Thanks

thanks very much brink. I'm a little confused and hope you can clarify something. I want 2 files:-

  1. Kidslocked.msc - locks down the kids account
  2. Kidsunlocked.msc - unlocks ONLY the kids account

Since I've already created/saved and applied the kidslocked.msc, how can i simply have the original default file which simply clears/resets ONLY the kids account settings?

I have another account called Media which is also restricted, although not as much as the kids account... I don't want it all messed up.

Thanks again

EDIT: I just ran that .vbs script and it's reset the settings, but now when i open the saved kidslocked.msc file, even that has had ALL it's settings reset again! HELP!

Have you thought about Parental Control instead of fooling with the Group Policy?

hi edwar, parental control is good, but GPO locks down most functions of windows 7.

Do you know where i can get a readymade GPO template? I really don't want to do this all over again :o:(

sevenxbmc,

Yes, resetting group policy to default will reset ALL of them incuding any custom GPOs. It looks like you'll need to set your custom GPOs again. :(

Unfortunately, there's not any ready made GPOs other than the ones you create for you specific system.
For individual custom GPOs, it would be best to use the tutorial below to quickly see which policies you have enabled in them to make it easier to manually change them to what you want instead.

thanks...just got to say that I'm surprised Microsoft did not include such a simple option that allows a full selection of all options.
