Where Gadgets Are Installed

To restore your saved Gadget data to a reinstalled gadget or after a clean install of Windows you MUST SAVE your APPDATA folder first before you reinstall your OS

The Data Path is Users/ (username) / AppData/ Roaming/ Windows Sidebar/ (gadget name)

Copy the data inside the folder of the gadget you wish to restore and paste into same folder after reinstalling the gadget

You will need to close the gadget if it is open at the time when you copy the data back to the folder..

Hope this saves you all a lot of resetting and copying, I have done this multiple times as I use 4-5 computers and want the same data displayed on all copies of the gadget that I am using. I just copy the files from the specified folder to a thumb drive and take them to another PC, which I have installed the gadget on and presto, all my pre made data is there..

Didn't want to leave incorrect info up (old post or not) as I might die, or something ᎓

  • It's in Local, not ̶R̶o̶a̶m̶i̶n̶g̶   ;
  • the Microsoft folder is missing in the path ;
  • so is the Gadgets folder.

Correct full path is ᎓

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets

… abbreviated to ᎓

%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets

… or, to really save time ᎓

shell :Gadgets

… which also goes to the same place.
