Where is startup programs menu?

OK but in Vista there was a specific menu on control panel under Programs section anda was useful

Maybe you are talking about the item in Windows Defender? That is still in Window Defender.

Woops. Windows Defender is one of the first things I disable when I reinstall. I was assuming. Thanks for the correction!!

I was hoping that MS may add it back before Windows 7 is released, but it looks like they are going to leave Windows Defender strictly as a malware and spyware scanner now.

I am a Microsoft loyalist. But when I install I disable anything that has to do with Microsoft security. My thoughts are that evry hacker iin the world is out to get Microsoft and their Security claims. I (very quickly) install my third party gear, which works as well, and usually better, than the built in Proggies. Never had a serious security problem yet, since around about Windows 2.

Hi All,

I personally use Autoruns for controlling my start-up items (plus a lot more), the fact that sysinternals is now officially part of Microsoft is one possible reason that this functionality has been removed from Defender.

I will admit that the application may be a bit daunting for the less experienced user but I do highly recommend it, (and the rest of the Sysinternals suite)

Reasoning behind it

Hi, first post on these forums. Can anyone kindly refer to me the reasoning behind removing this feature from Windows 7? It was pretty useful and the fact that it was readily available was great from a usability standpoint.

I can understand why it didn't belong in Windows Defender (as previously stated now Windows Defender is strictly an anti-malware feature). However, why remove it from the OS altogether?

You can still find making changes to the startup programs available in msconfig and through the registry.
