Where to disable a Wake Timer set by Process

Hi,

My computer is unable to sleep automatically and if i manually set it, it will wake up after 1 hour.

Upon running powercfg -lastwake the system states that a particular process is responsible for setting a wake timer.
further checking powercfg -waketimers confirms that there is a process that constantly sets up a wake timer.

Timer set by [PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks P
oint of Sale 9.0\qbpos.exe expires at 10:29:59 PM on 12/22/2010.

This process is set every hour from the running of the program. eg open at 9.29, it expires at 10.29. after 10.29 it will reset and expire at 11.29.

So there is no way I can put it to sleep for more than an hour.

Checking task scheduler reveals nothing related.

Please tell me there is a way to permanently block this process from resisting sleep, thank you!

I do not plan to prevent tasks from waking up Windows altogether, so please do not suggest disabling it from power configuration .

Not really into quick books, but just a guess; if you go to msconfig>startup and make sure that quick books is not checked. I think that you would have activate it while you were logged in and you could shut it off when done.
Just a guess.

You could also try to go to services.msc find that dreaded service and set it to manual or(if nothing else works) stop that process and set it to disable. Especially if Quickbooks function doesn't rely on this process to be running (meaning if the wake up call is all that process does, Quickbooks should work just fine without it)
BTW: are you sure that this strange behavior can't be disabled in the Quickbook settings somewhere?

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I'm not sure if a service process is responsible for it. The -lastwake and -waketimer responses point to a program qbpos.exe that is I am running.

I need this program to be running all the time as it performs synchronization at a specific time of the day, which I will schedule it to wake up for but this is a different matter because even if I turn off the schedule + the synchronization part, it will still wake up in 1 hr.

So I can't terminate this program directly, I am looking for a solution to prevent the program from waking up the computer, i can set that manually in scheduler.

I've looked everywhere in the program and consulted Quickbooks helpdesk with no success ;(

Well in that case you should talk directly to the programmers of that program
Obviously they don't expect a computer that runs as a register substitute (Point of Sales) to sleep.

Looks like you need to file that under " it's not a bug...it's a feature"

Just out of curiosity,
is there a way to still schedule a wake up on the computer even if I disable "Allow wake timers" which will block any programs from waking the system.

so in other words block all wake timers but specifically create something that can override it.

If there is another way, I don't know it...if the wake up function is disabled in the power settings
It might or might not still be possible to use the task scheduler to wake up the machine.
i guess that's something one has to try to find out about it.
