I crashed on Outside 2.0 after the installation of Ice 3.6. I had to get some NaCl 1.0 to revert to Sidewalk 2.3 and then apply a patch to Torn Jeans 5.01 in order to resolve a conflict with Skinned Knee 5.51. Then it was all "404 - Frost Not Found"...

As I said, I had no problem with the interface. And idle temps were mid 60'sF. But I was on the freeway, and some people were experiencing random crashes, and others had better looking browsers than I did. But overall, it does most everything I need it to do, so I won't be spending the money for the upgrade. A Guy

Good call on installing NaCl 1.0! Ice 3.6, if run on it's own, has been known to lead to the Blue Sheets of Death! There are some funny crash dumps on YouTube.

Please notice this is only my personal opinion, based on my quite extensive usage and experience. Other geeks might have different experiences.

I know some of the older geeks are completely happy with Wife v1.0, although service pack (also called Mother-in-Law) is known to cause some issues when trying to use Wife 1.0 with administrative rights.

However, upgrading to Wife v4.0 not only solves these issues, but also adds some newer languages to user interfaces for Life (v2.0 or later) and Outside (v2.0 or later). Upgrading to Wife v4.0 seems to have solved all my issues.

Notice please that you can not in-place upgrade directly from wife v1.0 to v4.0. To upgrade, you can only upgrade to next version so you first need versions 2. 0 and 3.0, although you can just install these versions for a short period, directly upgrading to the next version.

I only have experience from Wife v4.0 without Kids extension pack. It might be that all the benefits of upgrading do not work as smoothly if you also get the extension pack. I recommend first trying without.

whereas others devote their time entirely to helping people within their own knowledge base, that's quite a lot of us who need to get out more

For best results you have to do a clean install of the next version of wife. It is imperative that you wipe all traces of previous version before the install.

If you find you cannot afford to run two systems, it is always advisable to run the Virtual Machine Wife in Sandboxie as a minimum to avoid conflict of interests.

Unfortunately, Girlfriend 12.0 seem's to interface badly with Windows 7. When I try to use Windows with Girlfriend 12.0 running in the background I get an IGNORE error. However, when Girlfriend 12.0 interfaces directly with Windows 7 frequent "Help" commands are sent.

Well I've tried working girlfriend 13.1 in compatibility mode but found after downloading her from a dodgy website she came with too many viruses. I then scanned her with mbam and many other anti virus packages and soon found that a re-install was the only way out. This proved to be a problem as after I rebooted her out she left with my recovery disc (and the TV) which left me with no option but to go out and buy a new one, this is still a problem as MS says that I have to purchase a new OS with girlfriend 13.2 which means I will have to reload all my software from scratch. I now have a problem that my new girlfriend 13.2 is not a genuine product and I cannot re-activate her. MS have said that they cannot help and I should contact the reseller .... any help would be appreciated (are there any freeware girlfriends .... the last few have cost me a fortune)

*edit I have tried SFC /SCANNOW and it just hangs ..... and her mother just gives me BSOD all the time

Although forbidden in some markets, I think you could think of using rental services, normally available in hourly, daily or weekly basis. Not free, I know, but they normally are 100% WYSIWYG, doing what you pay for.
