But seriously, look at the oldtimers (above 50) they have seen it all and are still "young enough" to take in new stuff. Sometimes I wish I was a little older and had lived in an IT intensive environment all of my life. The "young punks" today get W7 and soon W8 served on a silver plate with none or little experience of the shitloads of W98 and WXP BSOD's we elders went through.

We aren't that Young! - I grew up with Win 98 and Win ME and Win XP :devil:

You guys....LOL. You want to know old? I was already into my IT career about 15 years when Windows 1.0 came out. I installed that version on a state-of-the-art Compaq PC with a 20Mb hard drive and thought I'd never fill that much disk space. :shock:

My first job as a programmer was using RPG on an IBM 360 Model 20. Everything was on punched card back then. Even the compiler. The input, calcs and output sections were placed into three different places in the compiler deck. The compiler deck itself took up an entire 30" card drawer. We were limited to 16Kb of memory. About a year after I started, the company added Disk Drives that were nearly the size of a washing machine and more memory. We had a whopping 24Kb of memory and thought we were in heaven.

I can just hear the young guys now--What's a compiler? What's RPG? Cards?

You can't buy experience and you certainly can't beat it, but you know you're getting on a bit when your grandson says "Can't you see the Enter key on your keyboard?" and you reply "What keyboard?"

Yep, some old IT pros and some just old. I've never taken an IT course or been trained in IT, but I find the best teacher is experience. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have messed my computer up and then had to find a way to fix it. But, I learned more about computers from doing that than I ever learned any other way.
