Which antivirus is best for win7

You know what's interesting? There's but one mention of Trend Micro in this thread.
Just an observation.

I'm using kaspersky internet security. kaspersky is always running and is the best antivirus i have ever used or seen. i also use pc tools spyware doctor. i just run that occasionally to scan. one security product just doesn't catch everthing no matter how highly it's rated. but the combo i have seems to kick virus butt.

i'm not going to say it's the best, coz i haven't tried them all :), but i do like kaspersky 2010

i've been using KIS for three/four years, and i haven't been let down yet.

i even got 3 free licences because i use barclays online banking (in the uk).

i am interested in MSE though, and will do some research.

does MSE = morro?

Having been using Avast for a long time I decided to look into security software for Windows 7 after one IT guy I know poked fun at the Win XP crowd pointing out that they're using an out of date OS and hoping that 3rd party programs can cover the gap.

Anyhow according to most resources I read through Bitdefender is the best overall but I've used that before and ended up being nagged so much I went back to Avast. I mean I like the idea of security but it's not very secure to make me want to destroy the whole computer to silence it. That's unsecure!!

The next rated was Kaspersky 2010 and I ended up going with that. Thus far it's fine. The demo is annoying as it'll drop you out of a full screen game to tell you that you're trial period has 29 days left (I wouldn't mind at 5 or less but the day after starting the trial???).

I did check out ESET but at the prices they charge... no way. Kaspersky cost me £30 for 3 computer for a year... I think ESET wanted that per computer and their program is not THAT hot. I tried out a previous version about a year ago and yes it is extremely light but it's not THAT fast. Plus anything they're making up with heuristics they lose out due to slower releases against upcoming viruses. Not that I've ever really had much of a problem with viruses of any sort.

I haven't even bothered to try Norton's latest abortion. I can't be bothered to go through the diappointment and then realise that I have to take a hatchet to my OS or reinstall to get rid of it.

As a side note, how many people are agonising over security whilst still using 32bit OSs? I'm assuming a fair number. Isn't that a bit counter productive?

64 bit has certain protections on the kernel. That's why it's such a stinker when you're trying to overclock your graphics card *grumble grumble*.

ah ok - i know what you mean now...

i use ati tray tools to tweak my graphics card, and that needed an unsigned driver to run, i worked out how to install and run the driver, but found that i didn't actually need the low-level driver running in the end to do what i wanted to do...:)
