What can I say new that most everyone else has not touched on yet?

As far as preferences go, I used to be die-hard Firefox--until I read of an issue with the makers of extensions (Mozilla ponders policy change after Firefox extension battle). Also, in my own observances, Firefox used far more memory than IE8.

So I run IE8 exclusively no and have no problems.

So as the lyrics of one song go: "You can get with this or you can get with that... the choice is yours."

I recommend you to make a small test, takes a minute or so: diable add-ons in Firefox and Chrome. Open them and Lunascape, open the same 4 or 5 tabs in every browser. Check Task Manager > Processes and be amazed!

That does not discourage me. It shows that the market does work. Egos triggered a war and the market (consumers) dictated the conclusion of the war. I use both of those addons and they both work well.

Well, the whole thread boils down to choice... Red pill or Blue? When I used Firefox exclusively, those add-ons where the first to get installed and I never had any problem with them either. When I read of that and that all it would take is for someone's ego to get in the way and make my browser less secure, then, well...

Toyota was world regarded as a company that paid attention to safety, security, reliability in the automobiles they produced. But... So, there's still going to be people who drive Toyotas because they see what's going on now as something they (the auto owner and Toyota as a company) will get over soon. Me? I jumped ship (not with the car, but with my browser).

And it comes full circle--it's about choice.

I did check the link Kari provided and I do think I will give Lunascape a shot.

Carl, although I have to say I do not try to sell Lunascape, I want to tell this:

You can change the engine in Lunascape on the fly. You can choose between Trident (IE), Gecko (FF) and WebKit (Chrome).

If you choose Gecko, all your FF add-ons are available and working.

Asking to disable FF add-ons and test was only to show how little resources a barebone Lunascape uses compared to a barebone Firefox.

I mean, do you go through the trouble of Control Panel > Uninstall a program > Turn Windows features on or off > un-check Internet Exploerer 8--to actually remove IE8 from your system? Just asking as it seems redundant to have two browsers that do the same thing.

Just like I said, no need to remove / delete anything nor turn features off. IE and Lunascape work perfectly at the same time, even when Trident engine is chosen in Lunascape, as this screenshot from my dual display shows:

No. Lunascape is a browser that can use the same engine than other browsers, thus behaving like them but with less resources. Here's a screenshot what happened when I swapped on the fly to Firefox' Gecko engine and relaunched the browser to take some screenshots:



Lunascape had updated all my Firefox add-ons, to be used when I choose Gecko engine.

Moot point, but I was merely referring to your preference, i.e., do you remove IE8--that's all I was asking. For example, when I ran Vista as my main OS and used Firefox exclusively, I disabled Internet Explorer because I would install the Firefox add-on "IE Tab." My personal preference was to do away with the extra (Internet Explorer) as long as there was a way to use its functionality (IE Tab).

I understood what you were meaning when you stated that there was no need to remove anything, just was looking for your preference.

I may be wrong; but I understand that disabling is not the same as uninstalling. If you disable IE, it is still there; it is just disabled.

Vista did not give you the ability to totally remove Internet Explorer from your Windows installation as Window 7 does. Thus, in Vista, I had to disable IE, whereas in Windows 7, you can remove it by way of Control Panel > Uninstall a program > Turn Windows features on or off > un-check Internet Exploerer 8.

And, by disabling IE in Vista, the file association would automatically take place as the browser you choose would become the default browser.

Speaking of preferences: If I were running IE, Firefox and Chrome and decided to use Lunascape, then FF and Chrome would be flat out uninstalled and IE would be removed via Control Panel. I wouldn't see the need to have 4 browsers when one can take the place of the other three. That's just me.
