Hi:
I wonder if anyone can help me decide which is the best Driver Scanner to buy ( or indeed if it is worth it at all!).
My Vaio laptop had dropped the optical drive driver, and others are badly out of date.
Is there a reliable and simple option to upgrade the drivers?

Many thanks

Welcome to the windows 7 forums tonybridge;

The most reliable method to upgrade drivers on your pc is the manufacturers web site for support. Most manufacturers have the latest drivers usually listed under your model and operating systems. Some (but not all) of the supposedly great Driver scanners just use the manufacturers sites to get the latest drivers.

I personally only get my driver updates from my equipment manufacturers site. The desktop machines from the motherboard manufacturers and such.

If a company no longer supports a device on your computer, then in many cases your out of luck or have to use the microsoft update to see if they have it. I never never never update video drivers from the microsoft site. :devil:

Sometimes the company is abruptly telling you that it is time to buy a new motherboard or machine.....:cry:

Have you been to the vaio site and checked?

Rich

Thanks. The issue required a regedit of the upper and lower filters for my BD drive.
Cheers

Good to hear you got it sorted. In the absence of any problem description I was gonna say "it's not broken, why do you want to fix it" i.e. update all the drivers.

You want to move carefully (especially with Sony VAIOs) to make any changes to them as they tend to have lots of proprietary "hooks". At least, my wife's old VAIO was that way! ;)
