Which drivers are most important and how you identify them?

Hello, stoked to see a forum like this exists!

I was given a super old notebook that still runs but is way out of date. Intel driver utility did not work so ia m not sure what to do next. Here are the most important, as i see them, drivers I need to update.

Processor: ~Intel® P9500 45nm "Montevina" C

Bluetooth: Internal Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR

Wireless Network: Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 510 Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)

am i missing anything else? I do not care about the stock hardware drivers for the webcam and fingerprint etc.. and i already updated the Nvidia card

Welcome to the forum,

Yeah, it looks like all the drivers from Sager are XP or Vista.

If you want to do this and upload the file,

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/374583-system-information-file-create-windows.html#Part1

We can see if anything is needed.

That being said, to answer your question about importance, by processor above I guess you are referring to the chipset?

That would be the first, the network and sound drivers, card reader.

It looks like this might be useful too, Intel Robson Technology Driver for Windows, if your laptop has it.

You have 6 items missing drivers,

These three should all be fixed with the card reader driver,

Code:
Base System Device	PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2382&SUBSYS_003114C0&REV_00\4&19086DBD&0&00E4	The drivers for this device are not installed.
Base System Device	PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2383&SUBSYS_003114C0&REV_00\4&19086DBD&0&03E4	The drivers for this device are not installed.
Base System Device	PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2384&SUBSYS_003114C0&REV_00\4&19086DBD&0&04E4	The drivers for this device are not installed.

This looks like the CIR IR driver,

Code:
Not Available	ACPI\ENE0100\3&11583659&0	The drivers for this device are not installed.

This might be the green charger utility, I see references to smart battery with those ID's,

Code:
Not Available	ACPI\CPL0002\2&DABA3FF&2	The drivers for this device are not installed.

This one is obviously the fingerprint sensor,

Code:
Fingerprint Sensor	USB\VID_147E&PID_1000\5&3498DE22&0&2	The drivers for this device are not installed.

You can install those Vista drivers on 7, it may need to be done in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html but they will work.

thanks so much!

one thing though, most of these drivers are from way back in 2008 or 2009. Is this the best I can hope for? Do i even need newer drives?
a

also, as far as the drivers that are working, should i update those?

You're welcome, unless you are having problems with a driver there's no need to update them.

An exception might be graphics drivers if you're a gamer.

Considering the age of the hardware it might be the best you can do, but again, unless you are having problems there is no need to update for the sake of updating.
