well in fuel it takes about 5 min (not sure alltough but it takes alot) to get from 1 side to the other side in 1 area... and there are a lot of areas ( if ur gonna try to get from 1 map side to another ur gonna have to order some pizza and something to drink first)... and u can drive pretty far off the map too. (couldnt find its map on google because FUEL is a pretty common word :P)

Look at my picture on the right side. It tells you ones that are even bigger. Fuel is only 5,000 square miles. Elder Scrolls II is 62,000 square miles so that's the winner.

And World War 2 online has a larger area

Gameplay takes place in a single game world, which is a 1/2 scale map of Western Europe. It is the largest MMOG game world map, at over 350,000 km², with most play occurring in a 30,000 km² central area in which most capturable cities, airfields and ports have been placed. Two alternate servers are available for training events and beta testing the next version respectively.

Actually, I just found this too for a game called Midwinter:

The game is set on the 160,000-square-mile (410,000 km2) isle of Midwinter, in a post-apocalyptic scenario of the entire world is covered in snow and ice.

I think this why the Guinness World Records chose Fuel. Maybe because the other games that are bigger than it have to load between playing areas so it is like a bunch of playing areas. Fuel does not load so it is 1 playing area so that is why the Guinness World Records might have chose Fuel.

rixto003: Here is the link to the game map: http://www.heddly.com/flatout2/purple44/FUEL/Fuel-Icon-Map---numbers-1024.jpg

Also, to get form 1 corner to the other it can take between 2 to 3 hours, maybe even more so it takes a very long time. Here is a link to a youtube video where it took them 2 hours and 12 minutes. It has been sped up to 9 minutes and 55 seconds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWOHJuS5DQY

Well.... Depending on exactly how you want to measure it (actually, regardless) I will say Eve online. (EVE Online - Home)

It has 250,000 players (or so, but only about 50,000 online at any one time) all on ONE SERVER (test server doesn't count). It has over 5000 solar systems, and each solar system is hosted on an individual node (that means that it is like a map, each one loads as you move through gates).
You can technically (no one actually does it) fly from one planet to another (or star station, etc) either by warping (a few seconds) or just flying (could take weeks).

So... If you wanted to look at Km^3, well.... good luck figuring it out. If you want to consider amount of maps, 5k is a lot.

Even with it scaled (you see hundreds of thousands of km at once) it is still HUGE. I never got tired of seeing all the different solar systems, suns, planets and moons (especially with the Dominion upgrade!).

Not trying to sell Eve here, just saying.

I have to say it. Technically, traveling from planet to moon at NON warp in EVE would take hours, from planet to planet could take DAYS.

Though I would have to agree that Fuel would still probably be the winner.

Only for instances

Im gonna have to say WoW on this, almost positive. Pry take days to walk the world map without fast travel. I havnt played all the games mentioned here but i have played many mmo's and WoW by far the biggest. (have not played eve online)

There are so many huge games though its really hard to say.

I guess big things come in small packages. I think your exagerating on the (tiny) part though. Have you taking into consideration the games that support flying mounts (such as wow). Because this does add to the size of playing area.

Just to add, also size is only part of how big a game is, if that makes sense. For example In FFXI there have been reports of linkshells taking weeks to down a single boss. And to say wow is tiny, maybe it is if u look at world area but content wise its huge!

WoW is tiny when compared to other games, but characters are also ichy-snichy-tiny-miny so yeah... it takes a looong time to walk from one place to other (luckily u can run there + mounts)...

anyways im staying with my opinion that FUEL has largest non-loadingscreened play area.

I have no proof to back up my claims of WoW being one of the bigger games area wise, maybe im wrong.

If we were to talk revenue, which do you think is the biggest? lol (i know its off subject)

just double checked and WoW seems to be in the 2 billion+ range per year when all said and done. Im guessing actuall figures are not released to the public though
