Hello,

Getting on a bit in years, and not all that good with this "stuff," so please bear with me a bit.

Will have to set up a home network.

When I did this for a friend many, many years ago, had a heck of a time getting it to work.

Will have a new PC with Windows7 in study, and the old PC in kids room.
Want it so that we can both use internet, etc.

Guess, I'll get an N type, as this is presumably the latest and greatest.

Question: Besides working well, the setup is probably most important for me due to all the problems I had in the past. Comparing LinkSys-Cisco and Netgear, which one do you feel would be easiest to set up ? Others to consider perhaps ?

e.g., instructions truly written for an idiot.

Will probably use wire for the router to PC in study since they will be so close together. CAT 5 Ethernet O.K., or should I go to CAT 6 ? Same connectors ?

Any caveats or gotchas I should perhaps be aware of ?

Much thanks, appreciate the help,
Bob

Windows 7 64bit
OS
Windows 7 64bit
Cat 6 not needed and useless for short runs. Use Cat 5e.

I personally like D-Link routers. Cheap, efficient, works as advertised and basically, perfect stability. My DI-624 rev. C is wireless G+ (108 mbps wireless) and has been flawless for me for about 5 years now.

I'd imagine their N routers are just as good or better.
