Solved Which memory dump is required for BSOD assistance?

Hi,

I have (I think) read all the relevant info about BSOD posting, but I'm not clear on which of the Complete/Kernel/Mini memory dumps I need to configure my system to first?

Sorry if that's a really stupid question - any help much appreciated.

It depends on the bug check code. For most of them, a limited analysis can be performed with a minidump. Configure the system to do a kernel dump. Minidumps are always created even if a bigger dump is configured.

0x101 (CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT) bugchecks cannot be analyzed with a minidump, because the thread that calls the bugcheck is merely detecting timeout on another processor core.

0x7F (UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP) with 8 (double fault) as the first parameter: unlikely analyzable with a minidump, because handling a double fault involves a stack switch (because it is most likely caused by a stack overflow).

Thanks muhahaa, if you are experiencing either of the above two, then you'll need to configure a Kernel Memory dump and then upload the file to a free cloud file sharing site such as SkyDrive or Dropbox.
