The option i gave you will be a good gaming rig it will be cheaper but on the side of newer technology which in the long run you can use the components for future systems

If you are unsure about putting it together you can order the parts and have a tech assemble them it would still be a better option then Buying a PREBUILT

They will Jip you and you won't even have close to what we recommended going that way

Higher end cost higher money with the specs that was given to you Intel or AMD will thrash what ever normal run of the mill system will offer you

If you have atleast 800 bucks to spend i would say build intel but in reality you can use the specs i gave you get a high end Gpu and it really wouldnt matter

Only on Benchmarks which are for braging rights not a real world performance marker

Also neither me or my Dad know how to install a new motherboard. Would it cost a lot of money to get someone else to install the motherboard?

There are all kinds of instructional materials:

You tube videos.

On line tutorials in text form.

Books.

This forum.

Other forums.

You have to decide if you want to go through that experience. Some do and some don't.

If you were able to replace the power supply, you can certainly do the rest of it with a little instruction.

You can inquire at local shops if they will install your chosen parts. Or maybe you can find a neighbor or friend.

But I would try to pick the parts yourself, rather than letting a local shop choose the parts.

Total time for a rebuild: half a day for someone who has never done it before. An hour or two for someone with experience.

I don't know what a shop would charge. I'd say 50 would be fair and 100 would be a rip-off.

The shop probably would not warranty anything, which is fine if it will at least boot up OK. Your warranty would be with the people who made the parts--Intel, Asus, Corsair, whoever.

I would suggest into looking at a pc store and pickiing out your parts
then have them put what you picked out together and install the OS as well

with parts and labor and using some parts from your old system like hard drive etc should run you to much i would give or take a 100 extra for a pro tech to install everything

But if you want to go out all brand new then go ahead get a new HD too that way the old pc can be used as a back up

I presume that Danielzxzx has an OEM copy of Windows that came with the Acer system. It may not install on the new PC. If it installs, Microsoft may refuse to activate it.

This would be about the cheapest:

(System Builder license.) Technically, using it for a DIY system may be a violation of the license agreement, but I'm unaware of any enforcement of that.

you missed that part if you look on the build parts i gave him i threw in a OEM copy of win 7

Mobo $139
8gb Ram $70

So if you have about 600 to spend, should be no problem getting a decent system (just remember power supply requirements!)

So who is having issues with AMD ATI? The issues are equal i woulnd't say they are all AMD /ATI related i can produce tons of threads on intel Nvidia related issues so please don't pull that here it is what it is some people actually know how to use there systems as oppsed to the problems we see on here any machine no matter what is a luck of the draw

Ok I have the power supply and case information:

Power Supply: 600w ATX Power Supply
Case: Aspire M3202 - Model Number: ULT-L56000P


So will my case and power supply work for:

High End:
Motherboard: midrange socket 1155 from Asus, Intel, Gigabyte, or Asrock
Processor: Intel i7-3770k

Med End:
Motherboard: midrange socket 1155 from Asus, Intel, Gigabyte, or Asrock
Processor: Intel i5-2500

Low End:
Motherboard: BIOSTAR A880GZ AM3+ AMD 880G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Processor: AMD FX-4170 Zambezi 4.2GHz (4.3GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Quad-Core Desktop Processor FD4170FRGUBOX

Will work for any of these options?

Here is the Acer spec sheet on that PC:

It says the case dimensions are 7.1" (180mm) W x 17.4" (441mm) D x 14.2" (360mm) H

That sounds like a standard micro ATX case, BUT it says nothing about any peculiarities your case may have, particularly regarding front panel connections. I have no idea. My wild guess would be it's OK, but it's purely a guess.

You need to find someone with that case who has used it successfully for an upgrade--changing motherboards etc. Or get a decent ATX standard basic case, such as an Antec 300.

Your PSU may be fine and may be shaky. All we know is the wattage, which is plenty--BUT we know nothing at all about its quality. If you paid no more than 30 or 40 dollars for it, it's like average quality or worse. And it may or may not have the proper connectors for your motherboard/graphics card combination.

As others have noted, you will likely need a new Windows license since you plan to change motherboards and now probably have only an OEM license---which won't validate on a new motherboard.

The power supply was more than 40 dollars so it is fine. Because of how complicated the process is to install a motherboard I'm going to be handing my computer into the store where I'm buying my parts from. They will install the motherboard as well as getting a new license for it. I guess they will also be able to see if the case will work.

Don't leave that shop without a new Product Key of 25 characters and a Windows disk.

If you buy another OEM license from that shop, it will be good ONLY on that new motherboard.

If you later want another motherboard, you will have to buy yet another Windows license.

The way around the problem is to buy a new RETAIL license, not OEM. You can buy that yourself online, at Best Buy, or wherever.

Who knows what the shop may try to sell you. It's up to you to control and identify the components.

And when I got home, I would call Microsoft and have them tell me if that new Product Key is valid for a home user such as yourself. If it isn't, you have a problem with the shop.

I went to the store and what is going to be happening is that they are going to building a new custom computer for me using some parts from my old computer and adding in some new parts like the intel i7-3770k and a special motherboard which will allow for future upgrading. This is the reason for them making a custom one so I can upgrade in the future without having to get a new computer again. The final price for all this is a bit over $1000.00 so I sure hope this is worth it. I won't be having a computer for at least 3 days.

I never used amd. The onetime I did it failed. Now I use intel and they serve me well.
