I need your help.
I have a desktop tower which was places on computer shelf. Bad thing about the shelf was that it had 3 sides covered with wood and very little space for air flow. I decided to bring my computer tower out and place it on carpet which had the whole room for ventilation. Now im wondering, should i place it back in the wooden shelf or leave it on the carpet? I really have no clue on what I should do since i think the carpet one is better but i hear that the wood doesn't create static electricity and all that. Thanks

if you are worried, put some wood on the carpet. :)

Static shouldn't be issue, so its really what you prefer i think.

The only drawback I can think of about being on the floor/carpet would be it may possibly tend to draw in slightly more dust, being lower as opposed to sitting higher... maybe?

Although, even if it does, that really isn't a issue as you should periodically blow out dust from your PC regardless.

I have my desktops on a roller cart on the carpet. They allow you to roll them out easily for maintenance but the key feature is that they raise the computer off the floor which lowers the amount of dust they inhale. Also presents the optical and readers for easier access as mine tilts the rig back. Added bonus if your PSU is on the bottom as it now get's cool air into the intake.

oh ok, and one more question to you all. Should i take it to best buy for cleaning ( quotated around $50+) or should i just grab my home vaccum and clean it out myself? Recommendations anyone?

you can buy cans of compressed air, which will blow out dust.

an old (or even a new) toothbrush can get into lots of little spaces too.

just be careful.

depends how big your vacuum cleaner is! you don't want to suck your cpu off the mobo! ;) imagine hearing that rattling noise going into your hoover....

the cans have little straws which can be directed where you like.

I take mine out of the case and vacuum it. Just make sure you ground yourself first.
I store my desktop underneath my desk where I built a wooden shelf to keep it off the carpet.
It gets air from 2 sides for ventilation. I do a cleaning every 6 months inside and outside.

Edit:
There's a guy who hires out to do it for you...

thanks for all suggestions. Much appreciated.
I made my choice of keeping it on the floor and using a vacum to clean it out. I think it fits me the best and ya. Thanks :D

Don't use metal vacuum attachments - even with plastic it is risky since static charges can jump to mobo. I wouldn't use a vacuum for that reason no matter how careful I am.

You're better off having any PC in a well-ventilated space, just be aware that you'll get more dust off the floor or carpet so move and vacuum carpet regularly, blow the dust out of case with can of compressed air once a year or so.

Instead of putting wood over the carpet, you can use a piece of cardboard cut a bit bigger than the case. That will make it easier to slide on the carpet.

compressed air costs a lot of money. A little can at best buy cost like 10$ canadian :( i dont wanna pay that much for just one time use !

I agree that a vacuum cleaner is inadvisable, plus, it just can't do the job that compressed air can. Cleaning the dust out of the heat sink is a high pressure job. :)

Replacing burnt out parts costs a lot more.
Just use the air where you can't reach with a brush
