It appears that Microsoft has for the first time actually put their own Operating Systems against each other in a comparison to see which version of Windows is right for you...

Makes sense from a marketing point of view. Gotta generate a buzz to excite new sales.

Reminds me of the "NEW AND IMPROVED" label on my favorite laundry soap - wouldn't be using it if it weren't. ;)

Hi there

Why is it these types of comparisons whilst possibly not incorrect but are TOTALLY MISLEADING.

I'm not advocating XP over W7 for example but It's perfectly possible to EASILY stream video and audio around your house on XP.

Audio -- look at this

Logitech Squeezebox Duet | Network media streamers | Reviews | PC Pro

Video -- look at this

Slingbox - How to use Slingbox in the UK

Also loads of other possibilities.

I would suggest that almost NOBODY in the entire known universe uses built in Windows base product for their media streaming apps without adding 3rd party apps / hardware.

Most of these "comparison" features are usually just misleading sales spiel.

Of course things like "Desktop experience" etc are good in Windows 7 - but that's usually a matter of taste

I actually don't really like AERO that much and used to have some pretty good themes on XP so even that piece of info in the list isn't really correct either.

I'm not knocking W7 -- but just against "Stupid and misleading Sales spiel). - And don't lets even flog that old dead horse up again on the"Classic menu" which zillions still prefer. - I for one don't like having a HUGE menu on a 28 inch monitor with a load of rubbish stuff on the RIGHT HAND SIDE which I either can't remove or change to programs I want. I don't need MISIC / DOCUMENT etc on the RIGHT hand side.

(Also XP has a decent 4 virtual desktop facility msvdn from "powertoys" -- it's a bit of a bodge to get this COMPLETE functionality in in W7 - the one in sysinternals doesn't quite have the same functionality as the XP one).

So read these things with care.

Cheers
jimbo

Makes no sense to me. Why confuse the customer with 3 OS? I thought MS would be happy to leave the past behind and only concentrate on W7...

edit @jimbo45 of course you can do all that with XP, but not out of the box. You should not take yourself (experienced user) as target audience of this simple comparison by MS

W7 cos it nice feature as I like the jump list and Aero peek that make me very easy to use also nice look taskbar you can pin up any software instead of putting on desktop icon. when you open web browser it has nice look glasser on top and bottom (I used the frost colour which look like glass).

Actually for personalization I would give XP the marks.
So far most 7 and Vista VS look almost the same as Aero.

Well, the other new functions kind of balance out though.

I like the Royale Theme with a Jaguar (animal) as desktop background - lifted from the wall paper in the Brazilian W7 Theme back - from the MS site.

Here's a W2K3 virtual machine (Host W7 X-64) image using ROYALE NOIR XP theme with a Brazilian Jaguar as desktop pic.

I wish I could replicate the nice grey black curved bars on W7 rather than the rather bland square one.

The W7 taskbar is OK but for me isn't really a MUST HAVE feature -- Id' rather have the old XP power toy Virtual desktops back.

Cheers

Nice desktop and theme - I used my own photo of my hearing dog, collie-cross (tri-colour) with nice smile... good picture - I usual like collie-type dog breed cos it so soft fur coat and nice cuddle.

Windows 7

I used to be a huge fan of XP Pro. When vista came out i tried it and was horrid. Sooo many bugs. Everyone was saying how good vista is but were getting bad performance (Due to the bugs)

I stayed with Pro for years untill i got a laptop with Windows 7 on it. Instantly i took a shine into it and got my self a copy.

I now have Windows 7 Pro x64, so it takes advantage of my dual core processor unlike my 32Bit XP Pro did. Runs alot smoother and a hell of a lot faster.

There was one down side, it took me over 6 hours just to connect the internet to my computer.

In my opinion, most of the people who have bought W7, were using it as a beta and RC, liked it, and bought it. The casual users will get it when they buy a new computer. A friend of mine, who writes books, uses his computer only for writing and listening to DVDs while he writes and he's happily using Windows98 on a ten-year old computer.
