Which one?

After Christmas I a thinking of building a basic general use machine for my partner and I cannot choose between an Ivy or Haswell build.
The two processors I was looking at were Intel Pentium G3220 or the Intel Pentium G2130Haswell and Ivy respectively.

The problem is of course the lack of any Z77 boards and the expense of the Z87 boards at reasonable prices as I not wanting to get too carried away.
The two I had picked out were the Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H (1155 socket) or the ASUS H81M-E (1150) socket both are around the same price.

where are you shopping for Z77 boards? newegg has lots of them Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Motherboards, Intel Motherboards, Intel Z77 idk if they ship to AU though. do you have a budget? also why do you need such a nice platform for a Pentium cpu? might be cheaper to go amd for just a general use machine.

Yep RVC I might just do that with an AMD instead as the Z77 boards out here are horrendously expensive and in very short supply thanks to Intel
Newegg doesn't ship to here or I would go with the 77 as there have been fair bit of bother with the 87 boards. The build I am not really that limited by budget I suppose I just didn't want to go more the $500 or thereabouts so it is why I chose the Pentium over say the i3 because it is about half the price of the base i3 core.
I suppose she isn't in that much of a hurry so perhaps I should keep looking round for the alternatives I just thought maybe the Pentiums would be ok.

Well our prices RVC are well a lot more than what is available in the US which is why I chose that Pentium to give you some idea
Intel Core i3 3220T [BX80637I33220T] - $155.00 : PC Case Gear

AMD FX 4130 4-Core Black Edition Processor [FD4130FRGUBOX] - $109.00 : PC Case Gear

Gigabyte GA-Z77-HD3 Motherboard [GA-Z77-HD3] - $119.00 : PC Case Gear

Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P Motherboard [GA-970A-D3P] - $115.00 : PC Case Gear

So throw in a case HDD RAM PSU - really just the basics and it quickly adds up $500 is pretty conservative and probably means having to go a cheap Pentium and board

yeah i see what you mean i built this up for you real quick and you could get a cheaper case and psu but I always go kinda overkill on the psu since you might need to add to the system later and want a decent brand so that when it says it has over volt protection it actually does lol, and at least some 80 scale rating. but yeah basically 500 wow. EDIT: went back to build same thing with intel and omg that is overpriced as hell for those chips! stick with the amd as the intel imo is not worth what your paying for them and that's just the cpu before a motherboard. Also that MB you picked with the 970 chip is much better than the one i picked and i would get it instead if you can eat the cost.

Jeez thanks for going to that trouble for me RVC that looks about what I want and as you say I think I would go a Corsair PSU even if it means bit more cash as I would have added in all probability an Asus Xonar DG card ($29) and an Asus GeForce GTX 650 ASUS GeForce GTX 650 1GB [ENGTX650-E-1GD5] - $129.00 : PC Case Gear
as she is a pretty special person to me.

Looked up corsairs spec table and it seems plenty for what your building and i would say its okay, my HX620w that i replaced with the ax still works and its almost 8 years old (just wanted to make sure i wasn't stressing it to much as it was starting to run really hot with all my oc'ing). that one has a three year warranty idk if that matters to you. it looks imo better than a cx-600 minus the 80 rating though so i say its the best bang for your buck at that site. is that the only place you can get your parts from?

Yes mate I have done three builds and always buy from these people as I know and trust them plus they are usually the cheapest around for products and shipping - they are in Melbourne and me in NSW about 700km away.

My last build the Ivy has a HX 1050 in (was on special) and the Sandy before I used a HX 650 both brilliant PSU's so I know the Corsairs are good..
