which psu?

i think my psu is going, and i am going to get a new one after work. which one should i choose?

OCZ StealthXStream 500W
FSP 450W SAGA+ 450P
FSP 500W Everest 80PLUS Modular
GigaByte 550W Superb 550P

they're all about $75...

there's also a Corsair 450W for just over $100 but i'd rather not spend that much.

Don't know where you seeing the 450 for over 100 but here it is for 75$ on newegg.

Also, for $110 you can get the 520HX which is an excellent powersupply.

Just stick to a good name brand, I Personally like "PC Power & Cooling" but so long as the manufacturer has been making power supplies for a while you should be getting a decent product.

i know i should invest in something as important as a psu, but i'm not sure this is the problem. on my budget, i'd hate to drop $200 on a quality psu only to find out the problem is in fact my motherboard...

I would go with the corsair 450VX.

Yes, it may be more expensive than the others, but at the end of they day what you need to remember is your power supply is ESSENTIAL to your computer. The extra money for a sense of stability is worth it.

Last time I went with a cheap PSU, I learned my lesson the hard way.

At the end of the day, it's up to you. This is just my 2cents.

All of the brands that you list are reputable.

In the absence of any system requirements, it's hard to make a meaningful recommendation.

I like PC Power & Cooling for their single-rail PSUs, but they may not be available at a competitive price in Budapest. (Seems like they ought to be, though: OCZ owns them.) I've had good luck with a Silencer 750 Crossfire (750W, but 60A on its single +12V rail). It's nearly twice the price of the OCZ model (at Newegg). PCP&C also makes a 500W Silencer model, which is more nearly the same price as the others.

i ended up ordering a Cooler Master 520W. should do the trick, and it'll only cost me about $80.

Sorry, I completely forgot the "system specs" box. (I've never filled out mine.)

Looks like the 9500 GT gets all its power through the PCI-E slot.

Your mainboard requires a 24 pin ATX power connector, and a 4 pin 12V CPU power connector.

It appears that your requirements aren't demanding. You could probably live with a good 300W PSU, if you intend no upgrades. (That's not purely a guess; I used the calculator at www.newegg.com. It's primitive, but probably conservative.)

on another forum i was told that my current psu doesn't offer enough amps on the +12 to properly power my PCI-E vid card, which could explain why it is going bad.

i'll have my new Cooler Master in a few days, and hopefully things will be back to normal. i hope to get a couple of TB drives when i visit the US in October, so it's probably good that i'm upgrading it anyway...
