I have Samsung N/B SERIES 3 350V4X-SOCTH with 4gb pre installed ram.
I want to extend it to 12gb(for solidworks and gameing)
I ran crucial scanner and it suggested
" Crucial 8GB DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-
ECC 1.35V 1024Meg x 64"

But i also found Transcend JetRam DDR3 8 GB Laptop RAM
(JM1600KSH-8G)(much cheaper).

So please tell me if both the above ram are compatible with my laptop?
And which one should i buy for better performance?

The pic of my pre installed ram is also under for reference. Thanks

Ps:at present i have only one 4gb ram in one slot. Other is empty. I just want to add 8gb ram and make it 12gb. And my graphic card is AMD Radeon HD 7670M 2gb

I have tried to find the details of your laptop online but couldn't ascertain how many memory slots you have. If it is two and you have two x 2gb modules fitted then if you by an 8Gb set, you will have to take out the existing and replace with the two new modules. This will leave you with 8Gb total not 12Gb.
I may be wrong but I don't think you will have more than two slots!
Sorry if I have got this all wrong but it might be as well to check before you make your purchase. If all is well then I would suggest you go for the Crucial option!
Something else I haven't checked your video card but is it good for high end gaming? (I'm no gamer by the way!)

well aftet some googling ive discovered you have an NP not an NB.. as they dont exist.. always helps with the correct model!!

but here are your best choices
http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/compatible-memory-for/Samsung/np350v4x

your laptop has 2 slots, and a max amount of 16gb.

you only ever want matching pairs so you can either have 2x4gb and have 8gb or ram or 2x8gb and have 16gb

also remember you need a 64bit version of windows or it will only use 4gb max!

Having just read your post again Adam, it looks as if some of the Crucial memory is listed as a kit of two modules and some are single modules. I'm no expert on this but is it not best to have two matching modules compared to a single module? If that is so I wonder why Crucial don't just show kits? There must be a temptation for some to buy say one 8GB module and just put it alongside one of the existing modules!
Also what do you think about the OP's video card for gaming. As I said earlier I am not a gamer but from what I have read here on this Forum the video card is just as important as the RAM!
Edit: This crossed the previous post but still might be relevant!

Yes, 4 plus 8 should work, but it would likely be single channel, not dual channel.

Dual channel is preferable, but the difference isn't much.

When you actually use more than 8, then 12 in single channel would be better than 8 in dual channel. How often would that be?

Gaming rarely benefits from more than 8.

Since you only have 4, I assume you have no idea if you would ever use more than 8.

If you are using all of the 4 you now have, you have to choose between buying 4 more and hope they work in dual channel or buying 8 more and planning on single channel. I'd choose the former because it's cheaper, may work in dual channel, and because I assume you have no reason to think you would use the 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th gigabyte of RAM.

If money is of no particular consequence, then you could replace what you have now rather than add to it, which would ensure it would be dual channel.

yes you can just buy 8gb and put it in and it will work.. but its not ideal.

you have whats know. as dual channel ram, basically it doubles the access speed to and from the ram if you have matching moduals.

if the moduals arent the same then it will run at the slowesr speed of the 2 moduals.

say you have a 1866mhz 8gb stick and a 1333mhz 4gb stick both will work at 1333mhz, instead if you had matching pairs it would be twice the number!

solidworks will really enjoy the added speed boost the dual channel ram will give you, but games wont really show much difference.

granted you only have 1 stick now so its only in single channel, so you wont loose any performance IF the new stick is matched in terms of mhz or no lower.
