I used to update every month until November 2018 when it really messed up my computer [W7 HP sp1 64bit], but apart from security MSE updates, since then I've only installed KB4457144, 4474419, 4490628, 4525106.

Are there any others that are essential before MS ends it support?

However a few days ago i noticed this file in downloads: SSEE31SDK-ENU.msi
What is it and do i need it or can i delete it?

And is it no longer safe to use IE11?

thanks

I can only relate my personal experience, as a professional Computer Tech. (of 40 years)

IE was a POS years ago, so I moved to Firefox while it was still in Beta testing, and I've been using it exclusively ever since.
For the ultimate in safe browsing, I use the SAFE Search Engine, "Startpage.com".

On the updates question....When I first installed Windows 7, I shut off Auto Updates and it's been OFF ever since.*
* on Windows 10, after I kill WUDO, I run a little program that permanently Blocks MS Updates.

It's been my experience that we can't trust MS Updates on any OS, to not screw up our PC's.

I've found that when an OS get close to EOS, the updates get worse and worse. (Bugger!)
So, I just refuse to play that game!

Cheers mate!

I'd actually like to second the OP's question. I recently built a new machine with a fresh (if modded) install of Win7 Pro. I included the Simplix pack in the install, but I haven't allowed any other updates to install yet. So if there are things I can selectively install that would be good for security or features without installing telemetry/trackers/Win10 nagware, I'd like to take care of that, ideally before EOS.

Just to be clear, I'm fine with relying on backup images + good old common sense re: security, if it comes to that. I just wanted to explore this avenue first.
