Solved Which SSD? Uk

I'm wanting to get an SSD for a good used laptop I bought that had a 120GB SSD. Moved the 120GB SSD to a netbook and am getting a bigger SSD for the laptop.

I've seen people saying they have preferences for various ones and just wanted recommendations. I know the Samsung Evo's are popular but had one once and it failed very quickly. Had a Kingston one once and it was rubbish.

The 120GB is a Crucial. Have also seen Intel mentioned.

So just wanted recommendations and experiences of various SSD's really at 500GB.

Everyone has their own ideas about which is the best SSD. I have a Samsung 840 Pro, 256gb one & is has worked for 4 years without any problems.

No matter what brand you buy there will always be the odd dud, which is just the way things are.

Personally I went with a Samsung 850 Pro 512 GB for my W7 computer and I am very happy with it. The Pro has a 10 yr. warranty so it cost's a bit more than the EVO.
I was shocked by the difference in bootup/shutdown times.

it cost a little more, but if you have an M.2 slot the samsung evo 960 nvme is pretty cool.

Samsung or Intel.

You must have gotten a dud from Samsung, mine performs great, both of them.

Hopefully Samsung replaced yours.

Of course it all comes down to one's own decisions.

I'm one of those that has chose Intel. I have several. When I get more SSD's I will stick with Intel. They are never tested as the fastest of SSD's but in real life use I can't tell the difference.
My goals when buying any hardware is reliability, durability and if their is a problem; how prompt the RMA takes to meet my satisfactions.
The big problem with Intel is they seldom go on sale. I have only hit one sale and they would only let me buy two 730's. I would of got more if allowed.

I have had a Samsung and a Intel SSD go belly up.
Samsung took a month for the RMA and returned a re-manufactured SSD.
Intel took a week for the RMA and returned a new SSD.

P/S:
I found out later that the power supply took out the Intel SSD and I have no idea what happened to the Samsung to cause it to go bad.

I gave the 500 gb reman Samsung away and I'm sticking with Intel.

Please note:
Millions of people have Samsung SSD's without any problems. Their is always a chance of getting a bad one in any brand.

Thanks. I can't really afford the Samsung Evo Pro. Have gone for the 525GB Crucial - hope it's ok! They're not the fastest apparently but seem to have good reliability ratings. I did see an Intel one on Amazon. It was between that and the Crucial really.

Crucial has good ssd's I have 4 I believe MX100 series though the 300 is better

Hi,
No problem Crucial's have fast reads which is usually what counts
Their writes are a tad lower
Samsung's at least the evo line are mostly balanced read and writes
Which wouldn't be a bad thing except the read is slower or at least mine are on the 850 evo verses mx100.
Funny my mx's cost more than my evo's so you must have gotten a good deal somewhere

After using Samsung 850 EVO's and wanting to try something different, I managed to pick up a Crucial MX300 525gb for £85 which was a bargain. Have to say I've been really impressed with it.

I've used Crucial for their RAM sticks many times and they've never let me down. And now I'm impressed with their SSD's too. Performance wise there isn't a huge difference between that and my 850 EVO's.

£85!!! Where did you get it? That was the price of the 275GB one on Amazon when I looked. That is a good deal. I paid £135 for the 525GB. (I kidded myself it was only just over £100 ) The Samsung Evo 850 500GB was £149. Which is quite a bit further over £100

They were slightly more expensive at ebuyer. Wouldn't normally get a hard drive from Amazon as they drop them through the letterbox! But reckoned an SSD would be ok with that.

I got it from Amazon UK. They had a 1 day flash sale a few months ago. I wish I'd picked up more than one at the time. But I wanted to see how it performed first. I'm impressed with it.
