Im currently running Vista Ultimate 32 bit with 2gb of ram.
However im planning on adding another 2gb of ram to my notebook to make it 4gb total.
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 @ 2.2GHz processor.
Should i instead buy and install the 64bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate? Or will it be incompatible with my computer?

Any help is appreciated. =)

Your processor is 64bit compatible, so you can install the 64bit version, however unless you really need the extra features of Ultimate/Professional, you can save some money by going with Home Premium. Remember to upgrade your RAM to 4GB and you will be good to go! ;)

Great, thanks so much Tews, that was one hell of a speedy response!
A second question if it isn't too much trouble.
Is it really worth upgrading the ram from 2Gb to 4Gb and using 64 bit, i mean will my old hunk-o-junk actually run better? also, would my computer run Home Premium better / more easily than Ultimate? I'm getting it for free through University so price is no drama =D

While it will run on 2gb, you wont notice any appreciable increase in performance ... It is strongly recommended that 64bit have 4gb of RAM... ;)

Hahaha yeah of course ill be adding the extra 2Gb of ram if i decide to get 64bit, i'm getting the Windows for free so i have no excuse to be stingy!
What i was really curious about was the boost in performance (or lack of) between using 7 Ultimate 64bit with 4Gb and using 7 Ultimate 32bit with 2Gb as when i try to research it i've been getting mixed responses about the magnitude, is it actually an appreciable increase or pointless?
Or even the diff between using 32 or 64 bit running Ultimate compared to 32 or 64 bit using Home Premium, would my computer run better/faster using Home Premium since its a bit older and doesn't have a super powerful processor?

Hahah geez at this rate im gonna become a guru under your tutelage, for every question you answer 2 more pop up.

Also, could i replace my current DDR2 667MHz DIMM RAM with, for exampleDDR2 1066MHz DIMM RAM?
Or keep the DDR2 667GHz DIMM and for my next 2Gb add DDR2 1066Ghz
Or do they have to all be equal to prevent my computer from exploding like a rotten pumpkin?
Or even can i use like SO-DIMM rather than just DIMM
or DDR3 instead of DDR2?! =D

Again, thanks so much for your help! SO many questions i'm sorry!

If you update your RAM, you will see a definite improvement in performance with Windows 7 64bit.. The version of Windows (Ultimate vs. Home Premiun) that you use will not make a difference in performance ... You will need to check the ASUS support page to see if you can upgrade processor/RAM .... And your computer wont explode like a rotten pumpkin!! ;)

I have Ultimate, only because I got it through TechNet. To be honest, if I was purchasing it, I'd get Home Premium, or Professional if I needed domain support.

Unless you need domain support or you absolutely must have XP mode, Home Premium is the version to get.

I know others disagree, but I doubt you would see any performance improvement by adding 2G RAM and moving from 32-bit to 64-bit. However, if you do add the additional 2G you will need the 64-bit to access the full 4G.
