As you guys know, I rarely shutdown my computer, just let it go to sleep.

My daughter was browsing the web [Stumbleupon] and complaining about how it is not loading pages, or loading them SLOWLY when the screen went white!

She didn't click anything, she was facing away from the computer when it went white! She had to hold the power button to power it down, then power it back up...

It has done this at least 3 times, and I have NO idea as to why or how it happened...

Suggestions? Ideas? I really don't want to use any C4 on it...

How old is the Compaq? Do you use temperature monitoring software? Is there an expansion slot available for a new graphics card? How is the power supply unit? Is its fan spinning while powered?

I just did a search on the model. It seems "old". Parts may be failing. A lot of external parts have been added by you. But the internal components may be exhaling dying gasps.

Yep giga has a point there Joes if you can do a test for at least volts on the PSU?

See how to do this here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/86648-psu-jump-start.html go to step 2 and then test the volts on the other lines / sockets
Yellow = 12v
Red = 5v
Orange = 3.3v
all within exact voltage or + 0.5v any significant loss than the stated volts then the PSU has probably had it. Keep in mind though that correct volts does not necessarily mean enough current - amps and therefore watts:)

Yes, the computer is OLD by computer standards, but you missed the detail of my 850 Watt PSU. Those came with 300 or 350 watt PSUs. The only internal part of the case is my two front USBs, and those are because I don't know how to change them [but I do have ideas on that]

The PSU was purchased at the same time as the rest of the internals, and actually the first part to arrive.

While browsing MSINFO32.nfo under Software Environment, subsections System Drivers and Windows Error Report, ASUS stood out with two elements: gpu boost driver AND gpu boost server, both possibly implicating aoddriver.exe. You may want to explore the ASUS community for a possible update and/or quick fix.

"aoddriver AODDriver \??\c:\program files (x86)\asus\gpu boost driver\amd64\aoddriver.sys Kernel Driver Yes Manual Stop Pending Degraded Normal No Yes"

You might consider taking the risk and update the AMD drivers package for the mobile card. Your current driver dated 2/11/2010.

Sony only updated my drivers once. Nvidia had a security update for its drivers. So I took the risk. I get the rare graphics hiccups I hadn't before.
