White Screen on Launch

Lurker here,

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. Following a recent restart, windows would load to a white desktop (or black in safemode) and a missing taskbar. The desktop, apart from being completely white, can't be interacted with (no drag and pull boxes). The taskbar is gone and the windows key won't bring up the start menu.

I can still access the task manager and have used that to navigate through my documents and to access my web browser (hence my being here now). Because I can still access and run everything through the task manager and command window, I haven't lost any utility, but I'd like my taskbar and desktop back.

Any suggestions?

That was my initial reaction, but I've neglected to turn the restore points on until now. =\

I've solved the problem. I simply needed to restart windows explorer. I don't know why restarting the system didn't do that, but it's solved anyway now.

Sorry to hear that. Why did Win 7 ship with System Restore turned off? I never understood that decision, still don't.

Once you open TaskManager, can you start explorer from File / New task (Run)? If so, does that bring up the Desktop?

Yeah, that's exactly what I did. It resolved everything. Thanks anyway!

Ah, our posts crossed in the mail (so to speak). Glad you got it fixed. I hope you have System Restore enabled now.
