Hi SIW2,

Thanks again. I've downloaded the zip file & will run it tomorrow, when I'm feeling a bit stronger.

The more I get involved with windows, the more confused I get; I've been keeping been keeping a diary of everything I've tried and changed in the last 10 days, so that I can edit what actually worked. It may seem a bit childish to you, but in most cases I've never met the problems and solutions before in my life!

Oh for the good old days of Windows 98, which I only stopped using because Finale / MakeMusic would no long run.

Onwards and inwards.

Jim

If you want to check your activation, run another MGADiag report, and post it - the last one indicated that you still had 30 days to go in the grace period, so you won't get shouted at for another couple of weeks, yet :)

Hi Noel,

The new MGSDIAG doesn't refer to the days left in a grace period, so I'll stop at that and wait 31.

Thanks

Jim

I will look forward to hearing you say that the problem has gone away! It is probable that I did something stupid like a typo when I tried to enter the COA label data during the Windows Repair. I think I'll take to the Repair Man next time.

Thanks

No you don't :) - just go to MS and download the Win 10 ISO.
Use your Windows 7 Key for access. (the one in the report now)

Noel,

You're full of surprises. The Microsoft "Man" on the phone told me I'd have to pay full price even though I was asking if I could upgrade from an existing legal copy of Windows 7.

I dare say it might be wise to upgrade, although I had just got reasonably familiar with Windows 7. (I'm always a decade behind).

It does seem a pity to abandon a system that is now working quite well. Maybe i should just unplug the internet connection and use it stand-alone, with an HP laptop on Win 10 which I have learned to hate.

But this is getting beyond the original reason for the thread.

Thanks

Jim

The upgrade isn't exactly 'approved' - but MS made that particular bed, so they can lie in it, as far as I'm concerned!
