Hello and Hi,
I am just passing by due to Windows 7 Professional (64 Bit) going all borked yet again.
Essentially, bought a custom built desktop computer from an UK company (Overclockers) with Windows 7 Professional installed and it has been insisting it is illegal since ... always. Have tried formatting drives, reinstalling and just about every thing under the sun but it seems to somehow be connected to either mainboard (Asus All Series and yes, possibly my fault as it does not give me specific model, ever), internal drive (Barracuda 1 TB SATA 3 from 2013ish) or the key itself.
So. Would have written it down as my stupidity but up until February 2017, I have worked in a company with plenty individual computers of various types - usually Dell, Samsung and Acer pre-made laptops which have came without a system. My boss bought separate digital editions of various Windows 7's (the one I worked on was 64-Bit Professional same as desktop but used others as well and we had one Home Edition 32-Bit and two Ultimate 64-Bit) whilst mine came with physical DVD and key glued onto desktop. All suffered from same error proclaiming our systems illegal from the start.
Essentially, am curious as to solutions as for a moment rearm cmd command worked for me (on my desktop, didn't check on work ones) but it stopped recently (even with registry changes on max uses of it; have not tried a fresh install then as said computer is backup machine now). I am working on a different station nowadays thus not really needing tips but kind of want to know what on Earth caused it (nope, all computers did not install some wonky updates and had fresh reinstalls thus I suspect it is some key blacklist or part related).
To add even a more curious thing - till 2008, all computers bought in my area came with illegal Windows - got first legal one few years after moving to UK (2012) and it's been the first one I had an activation issue with (desktop was bought with fresh Windows so have not fiddled with it until reinstall due to activation issues - did not help).
