Thanks, but have tried all that. I've just installed Office 2007 and so have outlook, but I'd take WM back if they would make it part of window. I still haven't given up hope.
The problem I keep running into is seen with the WinMail.exe and wabmig.exe files. When trying to give each full control in permissions both are greyed out. The rest see full control.
For the rest a utility for Vista called TakeOwnership took care of those easy enough. Once the new shortcut is dragged into the Start folder and pinned to Start it doesn't do anything when clicked following a few system restarts quite yet.

I have full control on all of the files. The problem is seeing the WM inbox open right up when first starting the system as a result of dragging the shortcut into the start folder.
Once that is closed I have to manually browse to the WinMail.exe and right on it directly choosing the run as admin option to open up WM again. Or I end up seeing the can't find message store folder.

My email is one of the most important aspects of my computer. I will not change operating systems on my four 'puters if mail is not included. Just like many people I know have stayed with XP, I may end up staying with Vista. It's not as polished as XP but will offer more features than 7 apparently.
I don't think it likes having a shortcut in the Startup folder so get rid of that Startup item. That guide stated to make a shortcut on the desktop to winmail.exe only if I recall correctly. There is a small program called Winmail Tray that will provide a shortcut to WM in the Startup folder and near the clock.

It should be an option for those of us in Countries that have decided NOT to sue Microsoft about every darned thing just because it's there and makes a wonderful cash cow. Talk about emasculation! I wonder if the EEC ever asked consumers what they want?
Exactly Peter!
Drives me nutz actually, when these "Commisions" stick their noses in to these things. My opinion is that MS makes the thing, they should have the right to put whatever into it. If people like something better then they can use that instead.
The only good thing that came out of all this was that MS has made all of their own tools removeable now and not so deeply embedded into the OS that you broke it trying to use some other tool.
I use Eudora myself. Used it since 98 and love it! They stopped at 7.1.0.9 when Qualcomm sold it for Open Source, and that last version still works perfectly in W7 for me. I haven't moved to the open source project yet, tried it once and liked the older version better, so as long as it works I'll be using it.
I think Win Mail Live is available for a seperate d'load now, as all components of Live will be.

I removed the shortcut right out the start folder and the next restart saw the same thing. I'll give this one a look and clubber the other two shortcuts to see if that will help.
I wouldn't be lost without WM in 7 since the regular ISP account is still getting spam baked! For a time they had a block domain and report spam option now gone seeing a small limit for blocking senders.
The problem is while having a new account for sending I still see regular mail coming there and can't import that to Live Mail even with that set for the default account. That seems to have limitations there too.

Whilst I am more than happy to download a seperate WLmail, I can see that many non-techy users who have always had an inclusive mail program (be it Outlook Express or Windows Mail) will have a problem if it isn't.
The fact is the European Commission is gunning for MS this time around, and any software company who sees an opportunity to cry foul about inclusive programs is going to do so - loudly.
Can you believe that the EU want to remove IE8 from Windows 7 because Opera reckon it's affecting their market share? No? Unfortunately that is the case, and now Mozilla are piling in too:
IMHO The EC has a wholly outdated view of what an OS is. There are numerous cases of embedded browsers in any number of applications nowadays. Why shouldn't Windows have one built in, especially if it is easy to install another browser for general usage if you wish.....

With regards to removing IE from windows 7 if you did that what would you use to download opera or firefox ?
I personally do not use IE or windows mail (or WLM), that is my choice, and I would probably prefer if it was a removable option in Windows but I realise that a modern OS must include a browser and probably an email client.
If this rule is imposed on M$ then it should also apply to any other OS in the same markets - OS-X and Linux, and I don't see that happening very soon

I certainly don't either! In fact I was under the impression that the EU was after MS about WMP not IE being included in the export releases of Windows. It has nothing to do with IE itself but having a monopoly on a built in media player. Yet you'll see Apple's Quicktime required in Windows at times due to certain elements from the other guy's OS.
If you go back 2yrs. and then some while Vista was still in beta OE renamed to WM was not enabled in the beta releases there. So to say 7 won't see WM in the final product is simply not waiting for the actual MS facts once the next version is ready.
Seeing that W.Mail is working here on 7 already the one question remaining is simply put where's the proof that it won't be seen in the retail/oem products?
For the advanced user the benefits from using the Live form of Hotmail over the original lame Hotmail is not seeing a load of spam coming into the inbox! On other online email accounts one was set aside just to see spam diverted there. With the typical ISP account coming into WM once one spammer gets a glimpse your inbox suddenly becomes polluted.
"block sender, unsubscribe(never advised since confirms active account), block senders over and over and over ...." I think I'll have WLM on for some time here.

What the EU seem to be suggesting is that Windows 7 should come bundled with a variety of browsers out of the box, and you select the one you want after you have installed Windows 7.
Even senior Mozilla Software Architects are saying that the EU is totally crazy to be trying to remove IE from Windows 7 and bundle alternatives. Read the following from PC Pro:
Mike Connor from Mozilla: "My personal view is that it's not the right outcome," he said. "The choice [when installing Windows] would be weird. There's no good UI [user interface] for that."
Politicians meddling in things they don't understand, let alone something as complex as an OS, is a recipe for disaster.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a single point of view at Mozilla, and I think they are in danger of severely blotting their copybook by getting involved in this ill-fated attempt by Opera to use the European Commission to strong-arm MS into submission.

The entire matter between the EU and MS has been going on for several years now. It's not only from MS including IE in Windows.
